Can a Snake Plant Still Survive Once Its Core Has Rotted?
A snake plant with a rotted core cannot be saved. The snake plant is a typical tropical plant with thick, broad leaves and tenacious vitality, but if rot appears in the leaf core, this mature plant cannot be saved, and you need to immediately cut complete, healthy leaves from the plant body for cuttings and cultivation to grow new plants.
Can a snake plant with a rotted core be saved?
1. It cannot be saved
If a snake plant develops a rotted core, it cannot be saved. This plant has thick, broad leaves and extremely tenacious vitality, but if even the leaf core has rotted, then it is impossible to fully save it. The only option is to cut and replant it to grow new plants for care; the original plant cannot be saved.
2. Cutting treatment
Remove the snake plant that has developed a rotted core from the soil, find the rotted part on its body, and use a sharp, sterilized knife to dig it out and cut it off. It must all be cut away, then select the healthy leaves and cut them into small pieces about 5 cm long, sterilize them, and place them in a cool place to dry in the shade for a period of time.
3. Cutting steps
Take out the snake plant cuttings whose wounds have basically shrunk and no longer have excess moisture remaining, coat them with rooting powder, then insert them into a loose mixed substrate of sand and peat soil, and water a little to keep the soil slightly moist. These leaves will grow complete roots after about 30 days.
4. Care work
After cutting snake plant leaves, note that the amount of water for the first watering should not be too much; keeping the soil slightly moist is enough. When watering, be careful not to splash water onto the plant's wounds, pay attention to providing appropriate shade, keep the plant in a semi-shaded place, and strengthen ventilation to prevent rotting. Once the root system is complete, it can be transplanted.
