How to Create a Buddhist Pine Bonsai and Care Tips
Production method
Choosing the pot shape
The specific shape of the pot can be determined by the tree shape of the Buddhist pine; it can be square or round, but generally we choose a rectangular medium-shallow pot. If the tree shape is the cliff style, generally choose a deeper cylindrical pot; for the curved-trunk style, generally choose a drum-shaped shallow round pot. Usually, the material chosen for pots used to cultivate Buddhist pine is purple clay pottery, and glazed pottery can also be used.
Choosing the tree shape
The tree shapes of Buddhist pine can be said to be diverse, including the straight-trunk style, slanting-trunk style, curved-trunk style and cliff style, each with its own characteristics. For the straight-trunk style Buddhist pine, it is tall, upright and vigorous, with an antique charm; while the slanting-trunk style grows in a spiraling manner like a crouching dragon; the cliff style is like a steep high mountain with a dragon raising its head, truly spectacular.
Choosing the soil
Buddhist pine is suitable for many types of soil; choose deep, loose, well-drained soil with slight acidity, but do not choose soil with high salinity and alkalinity. Sand can also be added and mixed in for use.
Later processing
If the Buddhist pine is planted in a relatively shallow pot, pay attention to reinforcing the branches and trunk. Iron wire can be used to bind the roots, taking care not to damage the roots, and then pass it through the round hole at the bottom of the pot. The later processing of Buddhist pine is mainly based on climbing and binding, using metal wire. Select some young saplings, about 2~3-year-old young saplings, bend the trunk and branches of the saplings, prune the side branches, and bind them onto the Buddhist pine in a horizontal or downward state. After one year of growth, remove the metal wire for adjustment, bind again, and after a few years it can take shape.
Care
Temperature
The temperature at which Buddhist pine can grow is above 15°C, so note that in winter the temperature must not be too low, otherwise the Buddhist pine will stop growing. The suitable growing temperature is between 20°C~30°C.
Light
Buddhist pine should be grown in a semi-shaded place, especially in summer, avoiding direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves will become short of water and be scorched by the sun. At the same time, pay attention to ventilation.
Water
During the vigorous growth period of Buddhist pine, sufficient water should be given, but it must not cause water accumulation in the pot, otherwise it will cause oxygen deprivation at the roots and death. In seasons of slow growth such as winter, there is no need to water frequently; it is only necessary to keep the potting soil moist.
Fertilizer
Fertilizing should form the rule of fertilizing once a month, especially nitrogen and potassium fertilizers, which are most suitable and can promote the growth of Buddhist pine.
