Roses sometimes show drooping heads, which is caused by insufficient watering, too many branches and leaves competing for water, or waterlogged soil. Supplying sufficient water to roses in small amounts but frequently is fully necessary; pruning excess branches, leaves and flower buds can reduce the rose's water demand, and as long as the soil does not become waterlogged, the rose will not droop its head.

What to do when roses droop

1. Replenish water

When roses show drooping heads, it is very likely due to insufficient water. Roses have prickly stems and large leaves, and sometimes the water absorbed by their roots is not enough to support the consumption of the whole plant, so at this point the grower needs to water the rose in small amounts but frequently, and also mist the branches and leaves.

2. Prune branches

The main ornamental value of roses lies in the beauty of their flowers. When roses supply too much nutrients and water to the branches and leaves other than the flowers, the grower should use a knife or scissors to remove some of the excess branches and leaves, and trim off the fine thorns on the flower stems, so as to ensure a sufficient water supply to the flowers, and then drooping heads will not occur.

3. Change the soil

Roses sometimes show signs of water shortage even though the potting soil is moist, and this may be caused by the potting soil not being breathable. Roses should be grown in loose, porous, well-drained sandy soil. If water accumulates at the roots, the roses will develop root rot, which causes the flowers at the top of the rose to droop, and at this point the soil should be changed immediately.
