Lilies not only produce large and gorgeous blooms, but their leaves are also glossy green and broad. Their flowers in particular symbolize holiness and good fortune, giving people a feeling of extraordinary refinement. But many pot growers throw them away once the lilies finish blooming, yet doing so wastes material far too much.

Lilies usually bloom once a year, and to encourage blooming, we can give them a pruning treatment in advance. Proper pruning can save some nutrients, letting the nutrition be supplied to the bulb, which allows the bulb to develop more fully and accumulate more nutrients.

During the blooming period, lilies consume quite a lot of nutrients, and the nutrients are mostly supplied through the bulb. Since the plant consumes a large amount of nutrients during blooming, the bulb's nutrition also becomes very low after flowering. Many pot growers simply throw it away, yet this practice is inappropriate.

This is because after flowering the lily bulb still has regenerative ability; we only need to dig the bulb out of the pot, trim and clean up the residual roots, and then it can be stored in sand or kept in a cool, ventilated place. At the same time, keep the bulb moist regularly and provide shade, and wait until autumn to replant these bulbs.

In autumn the temperature gradually drops, and after the weather turns cool, the lily bulb will gradually recover its growth vitality, thus beginning to sprout and grow stems and leaves. But considering its bulb is fairly large, it is recommended to use a larger flower pot, and the soil should be fertile and loose, with strong air and water permeability. In this way, the newly sprouted plant will gradually grow larger.

Moreover, the lily bulb also has the ability to divide, and during the growth of the mother plant, it will grow quite a few small bulblets. During ordinary care, when the potting soil becomes very dry, just water it a little. Never flood it heavily, otherwise the bulb will easily rot. Rain protection measures should also be taken to avoid water accumulating in the pot.

When it sprouts in autumn and winter, to make the plant grow vigorously, it is recommended to apply a little fertilizer in time. With sufficient nutrients and water, next we just wait quietly for it to bloom abundantly the following year! It can be seen that after lilies finish blooming, the bulbs need to be dug out and stored, and can be replanted in autumn.
