The goldfish plant has fairly diverse propagation methods, generally divided into seed propagation, division propagation, and cutting propagation. The sowing time is chosen in April to May, using clean, plump, healthy seeds. Division propagation takes a relatively long time to develop, while cutting propagation is the simplest and most commonly used; after the cuttings are potted, good warmth and moisture retention must be maintained.

Goldfish plant propagation methods

1. Seed propagation

The goldfish plant can be cultivated and propagated by sowing. The sowing time is best chosen in spring, in April to May, when the climate conditions can meet the growth and survival needs of the goldfish plant. However, obtaining the seeds of the goldfish plant is relatively complicated, so sowing is rarely used for planting, and the seeds are also relatively difficult to store.

2. Division propagation

The time for division propagation is also mainly chosen in spring. When dividing, first separate the clumps from the base of the goldfish plant's growth, and after cleaning and sterilising, place them in a cool environment to air-dry, then transplant them into potting soil. Division propagation takes about 1 to 2 years to develop, but once the plant survives it is very healthy.

3. Cutting propagation

Cutting propagation is a relatively commonly used and relatively simple propagation method for the goldfish plant. Both spring and autumn are suitable for the operation. For the cuttings, choose robust branches about 10 cm long, which must not have damage or traces of pests and diseases. After cleaning and trimming, insert them into the pot, take good warmth and moisture retention measures, and they can take root in 1 to 2 months.
