How to bag a Chinese plum bonsai in winter? Teach you the correct method
Bagging potted plants is a common management practice in the care process. The main purpose of bagging is to keep warm and retain moisture. It is generally a very necessary care measure taken when temperatures are low to prevent the plant from being frostbitten or frozen to death. This is mainly applied to plants with poor cold resistance that cannot successfully overwinter in the natural environment. Bagging can prevent the plant from suffering cold damage and can also prevent moisture loss.
The same is true for the Chinese plum. Because of its poor cold resistance, it generally needs to be bagged in winter, especially when grown in the northern regions of our country, where bagging is an even more necessary treatment measure. But bagging also needs to be scientific and reasonable, and one must not blindly just put a plastic bag over it.
First, we need to be clear that the main purpose of bagging a Chinese plum bonsai in winter is to do a good job of keeping warm and retaining moisture, and it must not affect other aspects. Therefore, when choosing a plastic bag, it is advisable to use plastic film, and the size should be appropriate. Using plastic film is mainly to avoid affecting the penetration of light through the film, so that the plant can obtain the necessary light for photosynthesis.
The size should also be moderate, slightly larger than the Chinese plum bonsai, and after bagging is completed it should not inhibit the free extension of the branches and leaves; at the same time, the bag must not be too large, otherwise the remaining space inside will be too large, which will reduce the effect of keeping warm and retaining moisture to a certain extent. The fundamental effect of bagging the plant is to keep warm and retain moisture, ensuring that the plant will not suffer cold damage and that excessively low humidity will not occur.
Moreover, bagging should cover the entire tree body in the plastic bag, and the opening of the bag should be tied tightly at the lower end to prevent cold air from entering. But in order to avoid the temperature inside the bag becoming too high and causing seedling burn, it is generally necessary to open the bag every few days to let it breathe and spray water appropriately. You can also poke a few small holes in the bag, keep the holes sealed normally, and open them when ventilation is needed. Once the temperature warms up and the plant begins to sprout, the bag should be removed in time, and the ventilation environment should be improved at the same time to ensure that the plant can resume normal growth.
