Flowering quince is a potted plant with very high ornamental value, and many people are particularly fond of it. Flowering quince has many flower colors, and its petals are smooth and translucent, making it look very beautiful. It is suitable for making bonsai to beautify the home, with its own unique charm, and is very popular. So for people who have just come into contact with flowering quince, they do not know how to grow it! Below, the editor will tell everyone how to grow flowering quince.

[Cultivation methods for flowering quince]

Soil:

Flowering quince is not strict about soil quality. Slightly acidic soil or neutral soil is fine, but loose, fertile, well-drained leaf mold or garden soil is best.

Sunlight:

Flowering quince bonsai should be placed in a place with sufficient light and air circulation. During the high temperatures of midsummer, it should be properly shaded to prevent sunscald and leaf scorch.

Temperature:

Flowering quince is relatively cold-tolerant in winter and is not strict about environmental requirements. The pot can be buried in soil, or it can be placed indoors at a windowsill. The optimal growth temperature is 15-28°C.

Watering:

Flowering quince usually only needs the potting soil kept moist, but care must be taken to prevent water accumulation in the pot, otherwise root rot easily occurs. During the spring and summer growing season, the potting soil should not be overly dry either, especially during the flowering period, when sufficient moisture must be maintained in the potting soil.

Fertilizing:

In winter, flowering quince should be given sufficient base fertilizer, with dry cake fertilizer or decomposed manure and bone meal being best. During the growing period, except for the plum rain season, frequently apply diluted fertilizer water as a top dressing. For plants that have already bloomed, it is suitable to apply liquid fertilizer 3-4 times each year. Applying more phosphorus fertilizer before flowering will make the flower colors more brilliant.

Pruning:

Flowering quince is mostly pruned after flowering. Generally, branches that have already bloomed are cut short to promote branching and the formation of flower buds, increasing the number of flowers the following year. In winter, overlapping branches and diseased or pest-damaged branches can be cut off, and leggy branches can be cut short, so that nutrients are concentrated and consumption is reduced, which is beneficial for producing more flowers.

Repotting:

The potting soil for flowering quince should be replaced every 2-3 years, preferably after flowering in spring, and autumn is also acceptable. When repotting, combine it with root pruning and place base fertilizer at the bottom of the pot.
