When a Clivia flower scape gets stuck in the middle and cannot grow out, it may be because the temperature of the environment where the Clivia is grown is too low, or because of insufficient nutrients or lack of water. To address this situation, we can artificially raise the ambient temperature, or supplement nutrients and enough water to keep the Clivia flower scape growing, or we can artificially cut open the leaves on both sides of the flower scape to let the Clivia grow out.

Solutions for a Clivia flower scape stuck in the middle and unable to grow out

1. Cut the leaves

When a Clivia flower scape gets stuck in the middle and cannot grow out, you can help it grow out by cutting the leaves. Use a knife that has been sterilized at high temperature to cut the leaves around the flower scape open by a few centimeters each, in order to reduce the resistance the leaves create against the growth of the flower scape, so that the flower scape can grow out smoothly and will not bloom while stuck in the middle.

2. Raise the temperature

If you find that the reason the Clivia cannot grow out is that the ambient temperature is too low, you can artificially increase the ambient temperature around the Clivia, for example by placing the flower pot near a radiator or beside a stove, or you can use an electric blanket to wrap the flower pot to achieve the effect of raising the temperature, so as to let the Clivia grow and bloom smoothly.

3. Fertilize and water

If you find that the Clivia is growing slowly due to lack of water and fertilizer, you can make the Clivia grow out by adding water and fertilizer. When you notice the flower buds emerging, you need to apply some liquid fertilizer to supplement nutrients for the Clivia, and at the same time you need to water once a week; the water temperature must not be too low or too high, as long as it is slightly higher than the soil temperature.

4. Chemical treatment

If you find that the Clivia cannot grow out, you can also use a Clivia scape-promoting agent sold on the market to make the Clivia flower scape grow out and bloom smoothly. When using it, the dose does not need to be too much; once a day, 8 drops at a time is enough. However, when using the chemical, be careful not to drip it on the Clivia's flower scape, as it can easily cause the Clivia to die.
