What to Do When the Leaves of a Money Tree (Pachira aquatica) Droop? Find the Cause and Fix It in Time
1. Causes and Solutions
1. Root rot
Many times the leaves wilt because the roots have rotted. You can gently loosen the potting soil a little and check whether the roots have already started to rot. If that is the case, you can try buying a little chlorothalonil and mixing it with water to pour into the flower pot or the soil. But note that before applying the fungicide, the soil must be kept dry; if the soil is wet, it will have no effect. Once the roots have recovered, you should water it, watering thoroughly but without letting too much water accumulate.
2. Too little light
If it does not get enough sunlight, the leaves will be weak and look unhealthy, and the leaves will be so broad that they cannot be held up. You can cut the branches shorter, leaving the main branch at about 30 cm tall. Move it to an area where the sun can reach it but it will not be scorched by direct sun. Buy it some special fertilizer and apply it, and it will gradually get better.
2. Key Care Points
1. The suitable temperature for its growth is 22 to 28°C. It likes warmth and has poor cold resistance. Except in summer, wait until the soil is dry before adding water in all other seasons; in summer, water both in the morning and in the evening.
2. It can be grown by cuttings. You can cut a section of branch that is one to two years old, about 10 cm long, and remove most of the leaves to reduce water loss. It needs a temperature of 20 to 25°C and also very high humidity to produce roots, taking about one month to one and a half months.
3. Spray it with water at about the same temperature as the surrounding air to increase the air humidity, so the leaves will be clean and emerald green. Add liquid fertilizer for it every 15 days, and it must be very dilute. The nitrogen in the fertilizer should not be too much, otherwise the patterns on the leaves will weaken, and the light during growth must not be too dim, otherwise the branches will grow very densely. After September, stop adding fertilizer for a while and leave time for the branches to fully develop, so there is a chance of successfully overwintering.
4. Use soil with good drainage that is airy and loose to grow it. If there is too much water, the leaves will turn yellow and fall off; at that point, let it dry out for a few days and it will recover.
