Old rose rootstock is best planted in spring or autumn when the temperature is relatively suitable; the survival rate is lowest in summer. For the potting soil, choose a loose, well-draining soil. Before planting, dig a small hole in the pot that allows the roots to grow freely, soak the roots in a carbendazim solution, then plant them in the soil, and after a period of acclimatization they can be established.

How to plant old rose rootstock

1. Planting time

The best time to plant old rose rootstock is in spring or autumn when the temperature is suitable. The root system of old rootstock is not well developed, its growth is weak and slow, and it easily dies if conditions are not relatively suitable. The survival rate is lowest in summer; summer temperatures are too high, transpiration is vigorous, and the plant easily loses water.

2. Potting soil selection

Old rootstock has relatively strong adaptability to the environment and does not have very high soil requirements, but you should still choose a loose, breathable sandy loam with good drainage, because the plant roots absorb water relatively slowly. Soil that is too sticky with poor drainage will cause root rot, and root rot will affect the plant's growth and survival.

3. Planting method

Choose a relatively large flower pot so the roots have room to grow. Place a layer of tiles at the very bottom of the pot, then above it successively place gravel particles and potting soil. Keep the potting soil moist and dig a small hole in it. The roots of the old rootstock should be soaked in a carbendazim solution, dried, and then planted upright in the pot, then fill with soil and press it firm.

4. Later care

After planting is complete, water thoroughly once first and wait for it to acclimatize. Old rootstock has strong environmental adaptability, and the acclimatization period is relatively short. After acclimatization ends, replenish water and nutrients in time; once the surface layer of the soil dries, you can water. For fertilizer, you can choose thoroughly decomposed organic fertilizer and apply a somewhat larger amount appropriately; once new buds grow, it can be moved into the sunlight for care.
