The goldfish plant has a well-developed root system and grows quickly, so it easily fills out its pot. It is also an evergreen flowering plant that will keep growing as long as the care environment is suitable, though its growth rate varies from season to season. But when we grow flowers and plants in pots, we all want them to grow quickly and vigorously, and to flower and fill out the pot just as fast.

The goldfish plant is mainly grown for its flowers, and it is generally kept as a potted plant for greater ornamental value. Care and management during the flowering period are very important; if it is not looked after well, it is also fairly prone to dropping its flowers. And when a flowering plant drops its flowers, its ornamental value is bound to decline.

In fact, under normal conditions the goldfish plant will not drop its flowers during the flowering period. If its flowers do start to fall, especially in large numbers, there must be a problem with its growth. The main causes are these:

1. Too much watering

The goldfish plant likes a moist growing environment, but it is also intolerant of waterlogging. Watering too much at ordinary times easily causes root rot; if you water too much during the flowering period, it is often fairly likely to cause flower drop. Generally, during the bud-setting stage, because the flowers and leaves evaporate a little more water, watering during this period should be timely and moderate. But once the buds open, you should control water promptly, otherwise the flowers will easily drop.

2. Root rot

The flowering period of the goldfish plant is generally concentrated in winter, and temperatures during this time are often relatively low. If you water and fertilize too much, it is often fairly likely to cause root rot. When root rot occurs, it cannot properly supply water and nutrients to the buds, and during the period when the buds are opening they need plenty of water and nutrients, so many problems such as flower drop and leaf drop appear.

3. Unsuitable environment

The goldfish plant likes a cool, shady and well-ventilated growing environment, and it has certain requirements for environmental humidity. But during the flowering period, if the care environment becomes unsuitable, whether because of poor light, poor ventilation, low temperature or low humidity, these are all causes of flower drop. Especially when these factors all combine, flower drop during blooming is inevitable for the goldfish plant.

4. Effects of pests and diseases

Although the flowering period of the goldfish plant is concentrated in winter, because regional environments differ, in some places it may bloom a little later, and at the latest it can bloom from March to May in spring. This season is exactly when pests and diseases are relatively active. If the care environment is relatively warm but has high humidity, poor light and poor ventilation, then it provides a breeding ground for pests and diseases and is very easily attacked by them, thus causing flower drop.
