The correct way to handle dead leaves on succulents

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
Many people think that cleaning up the dead leaves of succulents requires no special attention, but this is a mistaken view. Improper cleaning can easily damage the roots, stems and leaves of succulents, so when cleaning you should use professional techniques, and only then can the task be completed successfully.

I. Handling methods:

Hold the body of the succulent steady with your hand, and then you can clean up the fallen leaves that have dropped into the pot or the soil. Keep the cleaning motions as gentle and delicate as possible, do not use too much force, and use tweezers to remove the fallen leaves one by one. However, when using the tweezers, do not harm the roots, and do not leave the tweezers inside the pot.

Clean up fallen leaves as soon as you notice them, otherwise once they stick to the plant they become hard to remove. If you find a leaf that is hard to remove, by no means rush to pull at it with your hands, as this will damage the flowers. Be as careful and meticulous as possible; if you truly cannot remove it, you can wait a few days before carrying out the cleaning work.

II. Reasons for dead leaves dropping:

1. Weather reasons:

Surely no one wants to keep seeing their succulents at home constantly dropping dead leaves, right? At this point you should find out what is causing the fallen and withered leaves. Some leaf-dropping phenomena are actually very common, because succulent leaves are relatively thick and fleshy, so after a lack of water or hot weather they will dry up. At this point, watering an appropriate amount can alleviate it, and there is no need to worry too much.

2. Environmental reasons:

Environmental reasons are also a very important cause of succulents dropping leaves. Some succulents react poorly because they are not suited to their growing environment, and this includes leaves quickly withering and falling off. In this case, simply clean them up; if you place them in a suitable environment, they will still survive just the same.

III. Points to note:

The reason for emphasising that fallen dead leaves must be cleaned up in time is that when these leaves fall into the pot or around the roots, they easily breed some scale insects, and these dried fallen leaves undoubtedly become a hotbed for bacteria to breed. These pests will damage the roots and stems, causing the succulent to gradually rot and finally collapse. To prevent this, you must remove them in time. If you find insects, you can apply some alcohol to the affected area. You can also use an appropriate amount of insecticide, but pay attention to the dosage.
