Celtuce is highly adaptable and can be cultivated in spring and autumn or overwintered, mainly in spring, and harvested in summer. It is one of the most common vegetables on the table, but do you know where celtuce is produced? Let's take a look together below!

Distribution of celtuce production areas

Celtuce originated along the Mediterranean coast. Around the early 7th century, it was introduced into China via West Asia, and is now widely cultivated in various regions.

Growth habits of celtuce

Celtuce is sensitive to the acidity and alkalinity of the soil and is suitable for planting in slightly acidic soil. Celtuce has a shallow root system and weak absorption capacity, and has a relatively high demand for oxygen. Sandy loam and loam are the best soils for planting celtuce.

Growth cycle of celtuce

The entire growth process of celtuce includes the seed germination stage, seedling stage, rosette stage, fleshy stem formation stage, and flowering and seed-setting stage. The growth cycle of celtuce is about 80-100 days, and it can be divided into the following stages:

1. Germination stage: from sowing to the appearance of true leaves, requiring 8-10 days.

2. Seedling stage: from the appearance of true leaves to the partial unfolding of 5 or 8 leaves in the first phyllotaxis. Direct sowing requires 17-27 days; raising seedlings requires more than 30 days

3. Rosette stage: from “tuan ke” to the full unfolding of the third phyllotaxis, with the heart leaves level with the outer leaves, requiring 20-30 days

4. Fleshy stem formation stage: the stem rapidly expands and the leaf area rapidly increases, requiring about 30 days. Pea pods: the shoots can be picked 30 days after sowing.
