Pea shoots are a type of vegetable, the tender stems and leaves of the pea, also known as dragon-whisker sprouts, dragon-whisker vegetable, pea tips, etc. They are rich in nutrients and contain a variety of amino acids essential to the human body. They are most popular in the south, especially in the Jiangnan region. People in Yangzhou must place a plate of pea shoots on the table at the start of the year to express the wish for peace year after year. Now let us take a look together at the pea shoot planting method!

Step 1: Place the pea seeds in a plastic basin, or you can also use some buckets, then soak them in clean water for 6 to 8 hours.

Step 2: After soaking, rinse the pea shoots repeatedly several times with clean water. After rinsing, place the peas in a seedling tray. Note here that the seedling tray must be lined with oil-absorbing moisture-retaining paper. When placing the peas, lay them flat and spread them evenly.

Step 3: Place the arranged peas in a ventilated place, and also note that they must be kept in a shaded place. Spray the peas with clean water every day, generally 2 to 3 times. The peas sprout quickly, usually within 1 to 2 days.

Step 4: After 3 to 4 days, the pea shoots will grow a little taller. At this point we need to place the pea shoots in a well-ventilated spot, and also ensure that the pea shoots receive light. After exposure to sunlight, the pea shoots will gradually change from golden yellow to green.

Step 5: Spray the pea shoots with clean water 2 to 3 times every day. This is essential each day, otherwise the pea shoots will wither. After 7 to 10 days, you can harvest fresh pea shoots.

Step 6: When harvesting pea shoots, be sure not to pull them up by the roots. Leave a 2 to 3 cm portion of the roots. Afterward, you can spray these roots with clean water 2 to 3 times a day. Then after waiting 3 to 5 days, you can harvest fresh pea shoots again. Generally, you can harvest 2 to 3 times in this way.

Note: When planting, you must also be sure to keep the peas soaking for 6 to 8 hours. In addition, you must wash the peas especially clean. Only in this way can you ensure the quality and taste of the planted pea shoots.
