Asparagus is a well-known lazy person's crop; growing it is very simple, because it has no special requirements for soil, water, temperature or any other aspect. Eating asparagus regularly can have a very good anti-cancer effect; secondly, although asparagus is very easy to grow, it is still very rare on our country's market, so its price is also more expensive than ordinary vegetables, generally around ten yuan per jin. Since its yield is not high, let Qinnong Network teach you a few tricks below about the points to note when growing asparagus.

1. Sprouting method

Before sowing, we need to soak the asparagus seeds in warm water. They need to be soaked a little longer than other seeds, generally seven to eight days; then remove the seeds and soak them in formalin solution for six hours before removing them, then wrap the seeds in cotton cloth and rinse them clean in clear water, and finally wrap the seeds well and place them in a 30-degree environment to sprout. Generally after three days, 80 percent of the asparagus seeds will grow sprout white, and then they can be sown.

2. Reasonable land preparation

Before sowing, we need to prepare the land ten days in advance. In order for asparagus to have a high yield, we generally choose a plot close to a water source, and it should be relatively flat; try not to have low-lying areas, and if there are any, they need to be filled level, and an excavator can be used when necessary. Secondly, it is best to choose relatively loose sandy soil for planting, because this has stronger water infiltration capacity.

3. Planting density

Although asparagus can still be produced when the planting density is very low, if you compare carefully, you can find that asparagus grown at a relatively high density grows better and more vigorously than that grown at a low density, so do not think that the more you plant per mu, the higher the yield; reasonable planting density is the most critical. Generally, the best planting density is a spacing of 25 to 35 cm between each plant and a spacing of 100 cm to 150 cm between each row.

4. Scientific fertilization

If you want a high yield, then fertilization also has its particularities. Generally, when applying base fertilizer, we need to dig trenches, and these trenches are different from usual ones; generally you need to dig about 50 cm, then pour livestock manure into the trench, then cover it with a layer of soil. When planting, you need to first water the place where the base fertilizer was applied. In addition to the base fertilizer, asparagus also needs three topdressings. The first is when it breaks through the soil, mainly applying human excrement; the second is ten days before harvest, using human excrement plus a little urea; the last is after harvest is complete, sprinkling some organic rotted fertilizer, urea, phosphate fertilizer and potassium fertilizer to maintain it, so that it can grow a second time and at the same time not reduce yield.

5. Effective disease prevention

The main disease of asparagus is asparagus stem blight. The prevention and control methods are mainly clearing the planting site and using ditches for drainage, cultivating and loosening the soil, applying little or no nitrogen fertilizer, and applying more potassium fertilizer, so that the plants grow robustly and their resistance is enhanced. Secondly, when the disease occurs, Bordeaux mixture or 50% carbendazim 800-1000 times dilution needs to be sprayed, and insecticide should also be sprayed to control pests. Also spray once every 15 days or so.
