The Latest Control Methods for Common Cabbage Pests and Diseases
Cabbage is the most common vegetable on our dining tables. It is rich in nutrients, tender and refreshing, and it can be prepared in a great many ways, making it deeply loved by people. Tender cabbage is not only favored by us, but also by many pests and diseases. Below, Qinnong Web brings you the common cabbage pests and diseases and their control methods.
1. Cabbage damping-off disease
Damping-off disease is common on various vegetables and is harmful during the seedling stage. When it occurs, water-soaked lesions appear at the base of the seedling stem, which gradually constrict into a thread as the disease progresses, after which the seedling bends over and falls to the ground. If the soil moisture is relatively high, white cottony material also appears at the site of infection.
Control methods: This disease mainly appears during the hot, rainy season in the south, and is also prone to occur in low-temperature, high-humidity environments during the seedling-raising period. Disinfect the seeds and soil before planting, and after the disease occurs, spray with propamocarb hydrochloride or metalaxyl-hymexazol for control.
2. Cabbage black rot
Black rot can occur on both cabbage seedlings and mature plants. When seedlings are affected, water-soaked lesions appear on the leaves, the roots turn black, and finally the plants wither and die. When mature plants are affected, lesions appear on the leaves or the leaf veins turn black, and as the lesions spread they become V-shaped yellowish-brown necrotic spots, gradually spreading through the entire head. In the end, when dry, the tissue is brittle and easily split, and when humidity is relatively high, it rots.
Control methods: The disease is prone to occur in hot, high-humidity climates in summer. In addition, continuous cropping and improper fertilization can also lead to the disease. Likewise, disinfect the soil and seeds before planting, fertilize scientifically and reasonably with a balanced mix of various nutrients, and when the disease occurs, spray with difenoconazole or thiodiazole-copper for control.
3. Cabbage soft rot
Cabbage soft rot can occur during the seedling stage, rosette stage and heading stage, and can affect different parts, such as the root crown, leaves and head. In the end, all of them cause the different parts to rot and die.
Control methods: The disease is prone to occur during the rainy season, with excessive watering, and when there are cracks and wounds on the leaves. When planting, avoid continuous cropping with solanaceous and cucurbit vegetables, and avoid planting on low-lying plots with relatively heavy clay soil. Disinfect the soil and seeds before planting, promptly pull out diseased plants with their roots and carry them out of the field after the disease occurs, and then spray with thiofanate-methyl or kasugamycin for control.
4. Insect pests
The main insect pests of cabbage are diamondback moths and aphids. They all gnaw on the leaf mesophyll or suck the leaf sap, ultimately causing the leaves to dry up and curl, and in severe cases causing the death of the cabbage.
Control methods: Regularly clear weeds to reduce the living environment of insects. Greenhouse technology can also be used to seal the area for 3-5 days so that high temperatures kill the source of the insects. In addition, chemical agents can be used for control.
