Cilantro has a long history of cultivation in China and is one of the side dishes many people enjoy eating very much. But it is also because of its unique aroma that it has become a vegetable many people dislike. In fact, cilantro has the effect of strengthening the stomach and aiding digestion, and its fruit can also be used as medicine, with the effect of dispelling wind and clearing phlegm. So what diseases will cilantro encounter during cultivation? Below, the editor will talk with everyone about the common diseases of cilantro.

1. Leaf blight

Once leaf blight begins, it will immediately spread to the surrounding area and then to the entire plot, causing relatively serious harm to cilantro. When it occurs, it mainly harms the leaves of cilantro; affected leaves turn brown, and when there is a lot of moisture, the leaves will also rot. In severe cases, it will invade along the leaf veins into the heart leaves, causing a reduction in cilantro yield. The cause of the disease is generally that the seeds carry pathogens, so the seeds should be disinfected before sowing. For seed management, ventilation and drainage of the cilantro plot should be strengthened. If the disease is found, fungicides such as mancozeb can be sprayed for control.

2. Root rot

Root rot mainly occurs in lower-lying, relatively damp areas, and it mainly harms the roots of cilantro. The roots will appear brown, rotten, and with almost no lateral roots. With a gentle pull by hand, they break off, and such cilantro loses its commercial value. Try not to plant on damp, low-lying ground, because too much moisture can easily lead to root rot. If treating with chemicals, the main approach is to change the soil properties; fungicides such as carbendazim can be mixed into the soil and stirred, then spread into the furrows before sowing.

3. Mosaic virus disease

Mosaic virus disease mainly occurs when cilantro is grown in greenhouses in winter. Yellow leaves will appear on the cilantro plants, and the most severely affected are the heart leaves. It causes cilantro to become short and small, with no new roots or new leaves, and finally leads to withering and death. The virus of mosaic virus disease is spread by aphids, and it spreads relatively quickly. The solution is to disinfect the seeds before sowing by soaking them in an 800-fold solution of 50% chloroisocyanuric acid aqueous solution for about 3 hours, then draining the water and sowing. When seedlings emerge, spray 3% acetamiprid suspension once a week for about one month to inhibit the activity of the virus.

4. Sclerotinia rot

Sclerotinia rot is the most common disease in cilantro, with an incidence rate as high as half. The pathogen can grow in the soil for a long time, and continuous cropping of the land provides the pathogen with a very good opportunity to reproduce. There is a chance of disease at any stage of cilantro growth. It harms the roots of cilantro, damaging from bottom to top continuously; white patches appear on the surface, then the surface rots and exposes black sclerotia. The main solution is that continuous cropping cannot be practiced in the source area of the disease; mix quintozene with soil for planting. Seeds can be disease-free or disinfected seeds. Pay attention to drainage and ventilation in the cilantro plot, and chemical spraying can also be used.

The above four are relatively common diseases during cilantro cultivation. In fact, the causes of various diseases all include poor ventilation and dampness in the cilantro plot, so the main thing is to pay attention to the ventilation conditions of the cilantro plot. Weed frequently and fertilize more, and before sowing, disinfect the seeds as much as possible, so as to reduce the disease incidence rate and lower losses.
