Hairy wood ear, also known as coarse wood ear, yellow-backed wood ear, etc., has nutritional value similar to that of black wood ear, and is a wood ear variety that is relatively popular among consumers on the market. During the cultivation of hairy wood ear, the fruiting body stage is extremely important; only scientific management can achieve high and excellent yields of hairy wood ear and maximize economic benefits. So how should the fruiting body stage of hairy wood ear be managed? Below, Qinnongwang introduces its fruiting body management techniques for everyone.

1. Control temperature

During the fruiting body stage of hairy wood ear, the growth temperature should be controlled between 16-35 degrees. Too high or too low will affect the growth of the fruiting bodies. When the temperature is below 16 degrees, the fruiting bodies grow slowly; when it is above 35 degrees, the growth of the fruiting bodies is inhibited. The most suitable temperature is 24-28 degrees; within this temperature range, the fruiting bodies grow extremely fast. In addition, when the temperature is below 20 degrees, reduce ventilation to raise the indoor temperature, and when it is above 33 degrees, strengthen ventilation and spraying to bring the temperature down.

2. Increase humidity

Hairy wood ear grows on decaying wood in the wild, so it also has relatively high requirements for air humidity. During the growth stage, air humidity should be maintained between 85-95%. When the humidity is insufficient, manual spraying can be used to maintain it. When spraying, water can also be sprayed directly on the fruiting bodies, but the main focus is still spraying the ground and the space. Spraying should be determined according to climate and weather. When the weather is clear and the temperature is relatively high, the amount of spraying should be greater and the frequency higher; on rainy days and when the temperature is low, spray less or do not spray. When the edges of the fruiting bodies turn black and hard, it indicates that the air humidity is insufficient, and at this time watering and spraying should be carried out.

3. Strengthen light

The intensity and duration of light have a relatively large relationship with the quality of hairy wood ear. During the mycelium growth stage of hairy wood ear, light is not needed, but during the fruiting body growth stage, a certain amount of scattered light is required. With insufficient light, the color of the fruiting bodies is dull, and the fuzz is short and thin; with sufficient light, the color of the fruiting bodies is dark, and the fuzz is long and thick. Therefore, during the fruiting body growth period, light should be strengthened to produce high-quality hairy wood ear and meet market demand.

4. Maintain ventilation

During the fruiting body growth period, hairy wood ear needs to absorb a large amount of oxygen and release carbon dioxide. If the indoor environment is poorly ventilated and the air does not circulate, the concentration of carbon dioxide indoors becomes relatively high, so the fruiting bodies cannot grow and differentiate normally, ultimately resulting in poor development. Moreover, in the later stage of fruiting body growth, a high-temperature and high-humidity environment can cause the phenomenon of fruiting body decay, so ventilation should be strengthened even more to keep the air fresh.

5. Harvest management

Under normal management, hairy wood ear can be harvested 3-4 times a year, among which the first and second harvests have better quality, and the quality after the third harvest is poorer. After the first harvest, the remaining fruiting body bases should be removed promptly and completely to avoid mildew and rot, which can lead to contamination and prevent further fruiting. After one harvest, stop spraying, strengthen ventilation, and strengthen light so that the mycelium continues to absorb nutrients in the bag, providing strong mycelium conditions for the second fruiting.
