The Latest Soilless Cultivation Techniques and Methods Tutorial for Water Spinach
With the advancement of science and technology, agricultural planting techniques are also constantly developing, and the most distinctive of these is soilless cultivation technology, which can both save on planting costs and achieve high-yield, high-quality results. So how should water spinach be grown using soilless cultivation techniques? Come join us at Qinnong Web to take a look at the soilless cultivation techniques for water spinach.
1. Planting Preparation
Soilless cultivation is different from traditional planting methods; it requires specialized growing equipment—cultivation troughs, which can be purchased directly or built yourself. Generally, cultivation troughs are 30cm high and 50cm wide. Another important thing is the blending of the cultivation substrate, which can be made by mixing everyday coal cinders or furnace slag with chicken manure, ternary compound fertilizer and organic fertilizer, then piling it up to decompose before loading it into the troughs. When loading the troughs, first spread a 5cm thick layer of sand on the bottom of the trough, then fill in the prepared substrate and level it off, being careful not to pack it too tightly and keeping the thickness even, then water thoroughly with a large amount of water. Wait until the water has completely seeped down, cover with plastic film for half a month, and then you can plant.
2. Sowing and Raising Seedlings
Before sowing, to ensure the germination rate, first treat the seeds by soaking them in warm water within 60 degrees for half an hour, then remove them and soak them in clean water for 24 hours, then wrap the seeds in a wet gauze and place them in a greenhouse environment to sprout. Open and rinse them once a day with warm water, and once the seeds show white sprouts, they can be sown. When sowing, choose a substrate with good air permeability, cover with a layer of sand and gravel after sowing, then cover with plastic film to keep warm and retain moisture, maintaining the temperature at around 25 degrees. After about half a month, the seedlings will emerge. After emergence, promptly remove the plastic film to increase air circulation, and when the seedlings grow to about 12cm, they can be transplanted.
3. Transplanting
For transplanting, keep the plant and row spacing at about 15×15. When transplanting, pay attention to the time and climate; generally transplant in the afternoon, and be sure to avoid the midday sun at its strongest and rainy weather. Before transplanting, water the cultivation substrate thoroughly once, and after the water has seeped in, transplant the seedlings, burying 2-3 stem nodes of the seedlings deep.
4. Management
Water spinach is a vegetable that can be harvested continuously multiple times a year. In order to allow it to grow quickly after harvesting, generally a base fertilizer should be applied after each harvest to ensure the nutrients needed for its growth. After each harvest, urea can be applied as a top dressing. In addition, water spinach has a relatively high water demand when growing, so it should be watered frequently to replenish moisture, and when watering, water thoroughly. Soilless-cultivated water spinach has fewer pests and diseases, but pest and disease control should still be paid attention to.
