Artemisia selengensis is a wild vegetable with very high nutritional value. Its main edible part is its tender stems, which are usually used to stir-fry with cured meat, though they can of course also be stir-fried plain, and the taste is very fresh either way. Currently the yield of Artemisia selengensis on the market is not very large, so we generally rarely get to eat it. Well, today Qinnong Net brings you a treat, namely the planting methods of Artemisia selengensis. Come and take a look with the editor.

1. Sow at the Right Time

Since there are several sowing methods for Artemisia selengensis, the sowing time differs depending on the method chosen. If we choose to sow with tubers, then it can be planted all year round, but if we choose seed sowing, then it is best to choose early March every spring. If we choose stem layering for sowing, it is best to choose from the end of July to mid-August, while division sowing is best in early May. Finally there is the cutting sowing method, which is best at the end of June. For every sowing method, be sure to remember to plant at the appropriate time, as this way the survival rate will be much higher.

2. Choose Good Varieties

Now Artemisia selengensis is no longer just one variety, because the temperature and climate changes in each place are different, so continuous improvement has been carried out during cultivation. Therefore, Artemisia selengensis has developed varieties with different resistances according to different geographical environments. For example, in autumn when the weather is relatively dry, it is more suitable to plant large-leaf green-stem Artemisia selengensis, while in spring any Artemisia selengensis can be sown, and in summer Artemisia selengensis with relatively thin leaves is chosen. Only Artemisia selengensis planted this way will be of better quality and higher yield.

3. Land Preparation and Fertilization

As a wild vegetable, Artemisia selengensis has strong adaptability to the environment, so basically any land can be used for planting, but we should try to choose land with relatively fertile soil and close to a water source for planting. We generally need to prepare the land about ten to fifteen days in advance, because after preparing the land it still needs to be sun-dried. The base fertilizer is mainly farmyard rotted manure, averaging about four to five thousand jin per mu, then mixed with one thousand jin of compound fertilizer and urea for deep application. Finally, ridges are made and furrows are opened, which is beneficial for water management in the field.

4. Field Management

Throughout the entire growth process of Artemisia selengensis, field management is especially important. First, we need to fill in gaps in the field where seedlings are missing to ensure uniform seedlings in the field. After planting is completed, the seedlings in the field need their first watering, fertilization and weeding. For watering we generally use sprinkler irrigation. The first fertilization is mainly to promote the growth of Artemisia selengensis, so we mainly use urea, or at this time it can be replaced with manure and urine water, which can also save the time needed for watering. Before watering and fertilizing, what should be done first is to remove the weeds in the field, and by the way give the soil some air, which can increase the soil's absorption capacity and let Artemisia selengensis grow faster. From sowing to harvest, at least three rounds of watering, fertilization and weeding are needed, each carried out at the same time.

5. Harvest at the Right Time

The growth cycle of Artemisia selengensis is relatively short. Generally, the first harvest can be carried out after about a month. Why is it called the first harvest? That is because each time you harvest, you only need to cut off the newly grown tender shoots of Artemisia selengensis and leave the rest. After harvesting, apply fertilizer once, and basically after three or four days it can be harvested again. Each time it repeats like this until the usable life of the Artemisia selengensis is exhausted and it needs to be replanted.
