The Latest Garlic Sprout Cultivation Techniques: A Step-by-Step Guide
Garlic sprouts refer to the young seedlings of garlic, grown and cultivated from garlic bulbs under relatively dark conditions. They are now grown throughout the country. With their bright color, rich aroma and abundant nutrition, they are deeply loved by people and are a common appetizing and health-promoting vegetable. So do you know how they are grown? Come take a look at the detailed cultivation methods with Qinong Web.
1. Seed Selection
The output value of garlic sprouts is still relatively high. When selecting seeds, you should choose large-clove garlic seeds, among which purple-skinned large six-clove garlic is the best; the cloves are large, sprout quickly after planting, and have good quality and relatively high yield. Before sowing, first remove cloves that are frost-damaged, rotten or weak, and select those that are large and free of disease damage.
2. Growing Site
Garlic sprouts are mainly grown in low-temperature seasons, so the growing site can use a greenhouse for cultivation, or an empty room or cellar can be used for growing. When using an empty room or cellar for growing, light a fire inside to raise the temperature and ensure good ventilation. A bed can be built inside; the cultivation bed is 60cm high, and its length and width depend on the scale of growing. The bed surface must be level; spread sand or a layer of sandy loam, rake it level, and then sowing can begin.
3. Sowing
Soak the previously selected garlic heads in clean water for more than ten hours so they absorb enough water, then break the garlic heads apart, remove the heel of the stem plate, and place them neatly on the cultivation bed. Garlic cloves can be used to fill any gaps, and try not to leave large gaps. After arranging them, press them flat with a tool, sprinkle fine soil or fine sand once more, then irrigate the cultivation bed with water. Note that you should irrigate slowly from the side, not water directly from above; the water amount should just cover the garlic heads. After irrigation, spread another layer of fine sandy soil, and sowing is complete.
⟦NL>4. Cultivation Management
After sowing, strictly control the temperature of the cultivation room, keeping the temperature between 18-22 degrees. It will not take long for them to sprout and emerge from the soil. After the young shoots emerge, promptly cover with a curtain to block light, so the garlic leaves soften and the quality of the garlic sprouts is ensured. Covering with a curtain to block light must be done promptly; if the shading is too late or not tight enough, it will affect the quality of the garlic sprouts. Keep the temperature at 25-28 degrees during the day and 18-20 degrees at night. Also irrigate promptly to ensure sufficient moisture; generally irrigate once every 2-3 days, and strengthen ventilation to avoid accumulating a large amount of toxic gas, which would cause the garlic sprouts to die.
5. Harvest in Time
When the garlic sprouts grow to 25cm, they can be harvested. Generally, it takes only one month from sowing to harvest. Harvest quickly, but do not cut too deep; just cut off the parts above the ground. Cutting too deep can easily damage the garlic cloves. After harvesting, do not irrigate immediately, to avoid wound infection and disease. Irrigate 3 days after harvesting to promote the growth of the second crop, and after about 20 days they can be harvested again.
