Rapeseed is a vegetable of the Brassica genus, belonging to the cruciferous family. Rapeseed is very common in our lives. You may not know that rapeseed flowers are the flowers of rapeseed. The stems and seeds of rapeseed are both very useful. The stems can be eaten, and the seeds can be pressed into rapeseed oil after drying. Rapeseed contains fairly rich plant cellulose, which can promote digestion. So what should we pay attention to when growing rapeseed? Let's take a look together below.

1. Light

Both light duration and light intensity have a certain effect on the growth of each part of rapeseed. If there is not enough light during growth, the roots of rapeseed will slow down in elongation and expansion. This affects nutrient absorption and transport by the roots, hinders later growth, and reduces yield. Sufficient light greatly promotes the growth of rapeseed, enhances leaf photosynthesis, and increases nutrient accumulation.

2. Water

When rapeseed grows well, the plant is relatively large and the leaves are fairly lush, so it needs a relatively large amount of water for growth. However, the water requirement differs at each growth stage. For example, at the seedling stage the water requirement is not large; it is enough to moisten the soil when the temperature is high and the soil is dry. The flowering stage is the stage with the greatest water requirement. At this stage, we must ensure that the water content in the field is not less than 75%.

3. Soil

Apart from the roots, all parts of rapeseed can be eaten. It is a taproot crop. The roots of rapeseed are very strong and have many branches, and the main root can penetrate very deep into the soil. Therefore, rapeseed must be planted in fertile soil that is deep, rich in organic matter, and strong in water and fertilizer retention. Soil with a slightly acidic pH is more suitable for the growth of rapeseed and can increase the oil content in rapeseed seeds.

4. Temperature

Rapeseed likes cool conditions and cannot tolerate high temperatures. It is a very cold-tolerant vegetable. Experiments show that rapeseed seeds can germinate and emerge normally even at 4°C. However, the most suitable temperature for rapeseed growth is around 22°C, and each growth stage has different temperature requirements. The suitable temperature at the flowering stage is around 17°C, and it is slightly lower during the development stage. It is also necessary to ensure a relatively large day-night temperature difference so that rapeseed can grow better, accumulate more nutrients in the plant, and improve quality.

5. Boron fertilizer

Rapeseed has a great demand for boron fertilizer, but no matter where it is, the boron element in the soil is almost negligible. In addition, boron deficiency during rapeseed growth can lead to the phenomenon of flowering without fruiting, so we should pay attention to the application of boron fertilizer during management. If the base fertilizer lacks boron fertilizer, then foliar fertilizer spraying should be carried out at the flowering stage.

The above five points are the precautions for growing rapeseed. Planting is simple, but management is not easy. In particular, the application of boron fertilizer is the most important. Other crops may not have a high demand for boron fertilizer, but it is indispensable for rapeseed, so everyone must pay attention to applying boron fertilizer. Only then can rapeseed grow and develop better and increase yield. This article is for reference only. If you want to learn more related information, please continue to follow us!
