Ginger is a common seasoning in daily life, and it is grown throughout our country. Besides its seasoning role, it is also an effective medicine for treating illness, with effects such as stopping vomiting, dispelling wind-cold, and strengthening the spleen and stomach. Soaking the feet in it can eliminate athlete's foot. As market demand expands, its planting area is also gradually increasing. So how should ginger be planted? Let's take a look at this technique together.

1. Land selection and fertilization

Ginger is a crop that cannot tolerate continuous cropping, so reasonable crop rotation should be carried out when planting. Choose soil that is deep, loose, fertile, and rich in organic matter for planting. The field should be slightly elevated and convenient for irrigation and drainage, and it can be rotated with rice, cruciferous crops, and leguminous crops. When preparing the land, apply sufficient base fertilizer to ensure vigorous ginger growth and increase yield. Apply 2500-3000kg of decomposed organic fertilizer or farmyard manure per mu together with 50kg of compound fertilizer as base fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil, and deep plow to mix it evenly with the soil.

2. Seed selection and sprouting

Choose ginger blocks that are plump and full, good in external color, fresh, firm in texture, disease-free, and with 1-2 strong buds as seed. The best weight of the ginger block is 50-70 grams. Before sowing, disinfection and sprouting treatment should be carried out, as this can improve the germination rate and produce uniform seedlings. First soak in a 500-fold solution of 50% carbendazim for disinfection. After disinfection, place them under sunny weather to sun-dry for 1-2 days. Once the surface is shiny, they can be piled up for sprouting. Pile them together, cover with straw, and keep the temperature between 20-25 degrees. Pay attention to moisture, and once the ginger buds are about 1cm long, they can be sown.

3. Sowing

The best sowing time is around Qingming Festival. Use the drill sowing method when sowing, with a plant-to-row spacing of 40×30cm, a furrow depth of 10-20cm, and generally 400-500kg of seed per mu. When sowing, apply an appropriate amount of fertilizer as seed fertilizer to promote rapid sprouting. Apply the fertilizer evenly into the furrow and mix it evenly with the soil. Water once before sowing to keep the soil moist, then place the ginger blocks flat in the furrow with the young buds facing upward, press them into the soil, cover with a 5cm layer of fine soil, and after sowing, rake the soil level.

4. Scientific fertilization and watering

After applying the seed fertilizer, no topdressing is needed during the germination period of ginger. When 1-2 branches have sprouted and the seedlings have grown to 20-30cm, topdressing should be carried out promptly. This generally involves applying 15-20kg of ammonium sulfate per mu. The second topdressing is during the ginger tuber expansion period, when large amounts of nutrients are needed for growth and expansion. At this time, apply 75kg of cake fertilizer and 50kg of compound fertilizer per mu, which can be combined with earthing up. Watering should adhere to the principle of light and frequent irrigation, keeping soil moisture within 70%. In summer, when temperatures are high and soil moisture evaporates greatly, water promptly to maintain moisture. The best watering time is in the morning or evening, avoiding the high-temperature period at noon. In rainy seasons, take good drainage and waterlogging prevention measures. In autumn, ginger grows rapidly and needs large amounts of water, so at this time water at least once a week to keep soil moisture content at 75%-80%.
