Ginger is an essential seasoning in our daily life and is widely cultivated in our country. Its yield and quality have always been a worry for growers. Generally speaking, the yield of ginger is about 300-500 kg per mu. Only by achieving high yields can profits be increased. So how should ginger be planted to increase yield? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction below.

1. Early preparation

Before planting, the first thing to do is to strictly select the land and carefully select ginger seeds. Crop rotation should be avoided in the cultivation site, and sandy loam or clay loam with deep soil, loose and fertile soil, and good drainage should be selected. The planting plot should have good terrain and be convenient for irrigation and drainage. For seed selection, choose tubers that are plump, bright in skin color, fresh in flesh, hard in texture, and have 1-2 strong buds. Before sowing, first carry out sprouting and disinfection treatment to increase the germination rate and reduce the chance of disease occurrence.

2. Sowing at the right time

If they have not undergone sprouting treatment, sow them in the Awakening of Insects solar term, while those that have undergone sprouting treatment are sown around Qingming. Sowing adopts the drill method, with reasonable close planting, and the plant and row spacing is controlled at 40×30cm. Generally, about 300 kg of seeds are used per mu. When sowing, appropriately apply some compound fertilizer as seed fertilizer to make them sprout quickly. Before sowing, water thoroughly once to keep the soil moist, then place the ginger seeds horizontally in the furrows, keep the direction of the young buds consistent, gently press them into the soil, and then cover with soil.

3. Scientific fertilization

Ginger is a crop with a relatively large fertilizer requirement, so sufficient fertility should be provided during planting, following the principle of mainly using base fertilizer and supplementing with topdressing. During land preparation, apply 2000-3000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer and an appropriate amount of compound fertilizer per mu. Generally, topdressing should be done 2-3 times. The first time is when the seedlings begin to branch, apply 15-20 kg of nitrogen fertilizer per mu. The second time is around the Beginning of Autumn, apply 50 kg of compound fertilizer and 25 kg of potassium sulfate per mu. The third time is when the rhizomes expand, apply 15 kg of urea and 20 kg of potassium sulfate per mu.

4. Field management

Ginger is a plant that prefers shade and is not tolerant of high temperatures and strong light, so shading treatment should be carried out in summer. In addition, ginger is not tolerant of drought or waterlogging, and has strict requirements for water, so the soil should always be kept moist, especially during high-temperature periods. In rainy seasons, drainage and waterlogging prevention should also be carried out in time. When it grows to a certain extent, trellises should be set up and topping should be done in time to control the growth height of stems and vines, reduce unnecessary nutrient consumption, and promote the transfer of nutrients to the rhizomes, which is beneficial to rhizome growth.

5. Pest and disease control

Ginger has relatively few pests and diseases, mainly disease damage. The main diseases include ginger blast, soft rot, and leaf spot, and the pests include ginger stem borer and ginger maggot. Ginger blast can be controlled by drenching the roots with diluted Dexon. When soft rot is found, the diseased plants should be removed in time and taken out of the field, and the diseased holes should be disinfected with quicklime. Leaf spot can be controlled by spraying with 800-fold dilution of 50% chlorothalonil. Ginger stem borer and ginger maggot can be controlled by spraying foliage with trichlorfon or phoxim.
