Off-season vegetable cultivation refers to a planting technique of producing ahead of schedule or delaying production. It is a very popular cultivation technique on the market today, as it can ensure that most vegetable varieties can be supplied and sold year-round. However, because off-season planting damages the nutrients in vegetables, some people still cannot accept it. So what are the methods of off-season vegetable cultivation? Let us take a look together below.

1. Early-maturing cultivation

The early-maturing cultivation method generally refers to a method of planting when the normal planting time has not yet been reached and the planting conditions are not suitable. It mainly uses protective equipment for heat preservation or cold protection, planting early to promote the growth and development of vegetable plants so that they can be harvested and brought to market as early as possible. Vegetables brought to market in this way are generally called early-maturing varieties.

2. Delayed cultivation

The delayed cultivation method mainly refers to sowing in summer; vegetables that could originally be harvested in winter are planted in autumn using protective equipment, which is a way of delaying production. It can extend the growth cycle of vegetables, thereby extending the supply period of such vegetables.

3. Hot-summer cultivation

Summer weather is generally quite hot, and rainfall is also relatively heavy, which is what people often call hot and rainy climate. Many vegetables basically cannot be planted in summer, but now we can use the method of building shade sheds to lower the temperature and prevent rain, achieving the purpose of regulating the external environment and thereby carrying out off-season planting of vegetables.

4. Overwintering cultivation

Overwintering cultivation and hot-summer cultivation actually use opposite principles, producing one kind of cultivation method. Generally, windbreak sheds, plastic sheds and the like are used to achieve a heat-preservation effect, thereby growing in winter some vegetables whose cold tolerance is not very good; under protective equipment, these vegetables can safely overwinter, and when spring comes, they can be brought to market early. Vegetables such as spinach, Chinese chives and cilantro can all be grown.

5. Forcing cultivation

Forcing cultivation is actually a planting method very similar to overwintering cultivation. In cold weather, it uses greenhouse cultivation methods as well as other heating equipment to raise the temperature in the greenhouse, promoting rapid growth of vegetables and thereby achieving the purpose of bringing them to market. This off-season cultivation method damages the nutrients in vegetables more seriously than overwintering cultivation.

6. Softening cultivation

Many people may not understand the softening cultivation method, because it is not particularly common in our lives. It mainly uses softening rooms or other softening methods to prompt certain specific vegetables to form soft, etiolated organs in a specific environment. This allows many vegetables to be brought to market year-round, such as scallions, ginger and garlic.

The above are the six cultivation methods for off-season vegetables, among which early-maturing cultivation and delayed cultivation are currently the most commonly used on the market. Although off-season cultivated vegetables allow you to eat the vegetables you want in every season, many nutrients are damaged, so they are not very healthy vegetables. But their emergence naturally has its necessity.
