How to Fertilize Konjac? The Latest Fertilization Techniques and Methods Tutorial
Konjac may not be familiar to us; it is highly toxic itself, but its tubers are edible after processing and have extremely high nutritional value, making it quite popular on the market. For example, the most common konjac tofu is made from it as the raw material. Konjac has a long growth period and high yield, and its demand for fertilizer is also relatively large. So how should konjac be fertilized? Let's take a look together.
1. Nutrient Requirements
Konjac is a tuber plant with many roots and strong absorptive capacity. Throughout its entire growth period, it needs 16 elements, and it has a relatively large demand for soil elements such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and magnesium. According to research data, for every 1000 kg of konjac produced, 5-6 kg of nitrogen, 4-5 kg of phosphorus and 7-8 kg of potassium are consumed. When fertilizing konjac, do not apply chicken manure, and a certain distance should be kept between the fertilizer and the tubers. Organic fertilizer or farmyard manure must be composted and fully decomposed before application to avoid burning the tubers.
2. Fertilization Principles
⟦NL>During the seedling stage, konjac absorbs relatively few nutrients from the soil. After it enters the growth period, it begins to rapidly absorb nutrients from the soil, and by the tuber expansion stage, its nutrient absorption reaches its peak. Therefore, when fertilizing, importance should be attached to base fertilizer. Base fertilizer accounts for 70%-80% of the total fertilization amount. When fertilizing, organic fertilizer should be the main type and chemical fertilizer supplementary, and for topdressing, apply a small amount or none at all.
3. Apply Sufficient Base Fertilizer
Before planting, in combination with soil plowing, apply 3000-5000 kg of high-quality decomposed organic fertilizer per mu, as well as 60-80 kg of compound fertilizer, or it can be replaced with 50 kg each of calcium phosphate and potassium chloride. Apply the base fertilizer at the bottom of the sowing furrow, mix it evenly with the soil, then cover with about 3-5 cm of fertilized soil to prevent the seed taro from directly contacting the fertilizer, which could affect germination, and then cover with soil.
4. Reasonable Topdressing
Generally, topdressing is needed 2 times. The first time is at the seedling stage, which can be carried out together with intertillage and weeding, applying 30-40 kg of organic fertilizer and 15-25 kg of compound fertilizer per mu, or it can be replaced with 10-12 kg each of urea and potassium sulfate to accelerate seedling growth. The second time is at the tuber formation stage, carried out together with intertillage, applying 30-50 kg of organic fertilizer and 30-40 kg of compound fertilizer per mu, or it can be replaced with 20 kg each of urea and potassium sulfate.
