How to grow microgreens? A detailed guide to the latest cultivation methods
There are many varieties of microgreens, such as bean sprouts, Chinese toon sprouts, peanut sprouts, dragon whisker bean sprouts, radish sprouts and more than thirty other varieties. Microgreens contain relatively comprehensive nutrients and have effects such as beautifying, anti-cancer and prolonging life, and they are very common vegetables. So how are microgreens generally grown? Today the editor will take everyone to learn about the cultivation methods for microgreens.
1. Seed selection and soaking
Seeds suitable for growing microgreens should generally be chosen for large grain size, fast sprout growth, thick hypocotyls, strong disease resistance, high emergence rate, high economic benefit, good quality and strong adaptability to the environment. Before sowing, the seeds should first be cleaned, high-quality seeds free of pests and damage should be selected, then rinsed twice with clean water and placed in warm water at about 25 degrees for soaking. During the soaking process, the water needs to be changed twice, and soaking ends when the seeds' water absorption reaches its maximum, then the mucus attached to the seeds should be rinsed off.
2. Seedling tray treatment
Before sowing, the seedling trays also need to be prepared, and the trays should be cleaned and disinfected. First scrub the seedling trays clean, then soak them in quicklime water, take them out after five or six minutes, and rinse them clean with water; finally spread a layer of substrate on the seedling trays, and then sowing management can begin.
⟦NL>3. Scientific sowing
When sowing, note that the seedling trays should be kept consistent and the sowing should be even. After sowing, do not bump the seedling trays, so as not to cause the seeds to shift and the sowing to be uneven. The substrate spread on the seedling trays needs an appropriate amount of nutrient solution poured in to moisten the substrate, then the seeds should be evenly scattered onto the seedling tray, with a thickness of about 1.5 cm. After sowing, move the seedling trays to a place with good ventilation and slanting sunlight.
4. Tray-out management
As the microgreens grow, we need to gradually increase the light intensity, and when the microgreens are harvested, the seedling trays need to be moved into the sunlight for growth. During the process of cultivating the sprouts, we need to spray water three or four times a day; microgreens planted in winter and spring only need to be sprayed two or three times, but note that the amount sprayed should not be too large. Generally the humidity in the air should be kept at about 85 percent, and ventilation should be carried out twice a day; if the temperature is relatively cold, short periods of ventilation are also needed. Generally they can be harvested in about a week, when the microgreens are very tender and taste best.
The above is what the editor introduced today about the cultivation methods for microgreens, and I hope it can help everyone. In fact, growing microgreens is really very simple, and the yield is not bad either, and the fresher the microgreens, the more popular they are in the market.
