Cucumber is one of the common vegetables in our daily lives. It is rich in a variety of vitamins and also has the effect of clearing heat and detoxifying, and its weight-loss and beauty benefits are deeply loved by women. When growing cucumbers, reasonable fertilization is the key to obtaining high yields, so how should cucumbers be fertilized? Let's find out together.

1. Apply sufficient base fertilizer

Cucumbers have an extremely high yield, so they have a large demand for fertility. Therefore, applying sufficient base fertilizer is the key to growing cucumbers. Calculated at a yield of 5000 kg per mu, they need to absorb 11.14 kg of pure nitrogen, 7.66 kg of pure phosphorus, and 15.57 kg of pure potassium. The base fertilizer is mainly organic fertilizer, paired with an appropriate amount of chemical fertilizer. The fertilization method is to apply it all at once in combination with land preparation. Generally, 4000-5000 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer is applied per mu, paired with 30 kg each of urea and diammonium phosphate, as well as 20 kg of potassium chloride. If planting in spring and autumn, the fertilization amount can be reduced by about 10%-20% accordingly.

2. Fertilizing seedlings

The seedling stage is a key period for cultivating strong seedlings and is also the foundation for ensuring high plant yields, so timely topdressing is needed during the seedling stage to promote robust seedling growth. Because the base fertilizer is sufficient during the seedling stage, there is no need to apply heavy fertilizer. Generally, to promote seedling growth, a method combining organic fertilizer and chemical fertilizer is used. Apply 100—150 kg of decomposed organic fertilizer or decomposed chicken manure per mu, paired with an appropriate amount of urea and superphosphate, but to avoid the phenomenon of burning seedlings, in most cases the fertilizer is dissolved in water and applied by watering. This can not only speed up the fertilizer absorption rate but also improve the fertilizer utilization rate.

3. Timely topdressing

After planting, the plants enter the peak growth season. At this time, the plants carry out vegetative growth and fruit development together, so the demand for fertility is extremely large. Cucumber is a shallow-rooted crop and prefers weaker fertility, so at this time fertilization must be carried out several times to ensure that plant growth and fruit development have sufficient nutrients. According to research, if the cucumber yield reaches more than 5000 kg per mu, from planting to the end of harvest, 80-10 topdressings are needed. For each fertilization, 10—15 kg of diammonium acid per mu can be used, or 250—300 kg of human feces and urine diluted with water can be applied.

4. Foliar fertilization

Foliar fertilization generally refers to leaf spraying, mainly to prevent deficiency symptoms caused by a lack of certain trace elements in the plants, and it can also prevent premature aging of the plants. Leaf spraying is generally used during the peak fruiting period. At this time, the temperature is relatively low, root activity is weak, and absorption capacity is poor, so to satisfy normal fruiting, the needed nutrients can be supplemented.
