Peas are propagated by sowing when planting. When planting, in order to improve the germination rate, farmers generally have to carry out a series of treatments on the seeds before sowing. So how should the seeds be selected? How can the germination rate be improved? Let's take a look at the detailed introduction together.

1. Seed selection

Before sowing, the seeds must be carefully selected, removing diseased and insect-damaged seeds, broken seeds, small seeds, shriveled seeds, and seeds with mixed grain weight and off-color seeds, etc. This can reduce the harm of diseases and insect pests, improve the uniformity of sowing, and ensure that the seedlings emerge neatly and uniformly. If the sowing quantity is too small, the method of manual seed selection can be used, while when the quantity is large, sieve screening can be used or 40% salt water can be used for seed selection. Pour the seeds into the salt water; inferior seeds will float on the surface of the water and can be scooped out and removed, while those that sink to the bottom can be used for sowing.

2. Sun-drying the seeds

Place the selected seeds in the sunlight to dry for 3-5 days, which can significantly improve the germination vigor and germination rate of the plants. When sun-drying the seeds, pay attention to choosing a time with clear weather and bright sunshine. Spread a layer of towel or gauze on the ground, evenly spread the seeds on it, with a thickness of about 5cm, and turn them from time to time while sun-drying so that they are heated evenly. Sun-drying the seeds can kill the pathogens and insect eggs carried on the surface of the seeds and reduce the harm of seed-borne diseases and insect pests.

3. Seed soaking and germination acceleration

After low-temperature vernalization treatment, pea seeds can lower the node position of flower formation, make them bloom earlier and promote branching, improve harvesting, and increase yield. First put the seeds into cold water and soak for 2 hours, so that the seeds are fully moistened until the seed coat swells, then take them out, wrap them in a towel or gauze, and place them at a normal temperature of 15-20 degrees to accelerate germination for one day. During germination acceleration, rinse them with clean water once every 2 hours to replenish moisture. After the seed embryos emerge, place them in a low-temperature environment of 0-5 degrees for 10-12, and the refrigerator compartment is also acceptable, and then they can be sown.

4. Mixing seeds with rhizobia

Seeds that have undergone low-temperature vernalization treatment can then be mixed with rhizobia. The advantage of doing this is that it can increase the number of root nodules on the seedlings, promote stem and leaf growth, make them form more pods, and increase yield. The method of mixing seeds is also very simple. Generally, for the seed quantity used per mu, add 10-15 grams of rhizobia powder plus an appropriate amount of water and then stir it with the seeds.
