Lettuce is grown in all major regions of our country. Because its cultivation and management are simple, it sells well on the market, and its growing returns are relatively good, it has attracted many people to grow it. However, many people often encounter poor germination or very little germination when growing it, so what methods are there to increase the germination rate of lettuce seeds? Follow the editor below to take a look at the methods for germinating lettuce seeds.

1. Sowing time

Lettuce likes cool climates and does not like high-temperature environments, but it is also not cold-tolerant. Its optimum growing temperature is 15-20 degrees, so its sowing period is very long, and it can be sown from August of the current year to February of the following year. Of course, the best sowing time is from October to December. Of course, it can also be ensured from March to July, but the yield may not be high. Its seed germination rate is not high, so before sowing it needs to be germinated to increase the germination rate and shorten the germination time.

2. Seed soaking

Before sowing, choose plump seeds of uniform size, put the seeds into clean water and soak them for 3-4 hours. The amount of water should be 2-3 times the amount of seeds, or the water surface should cover the seeds by 1-2 cm. The reason for doing this is that seed germination cannot be separated from water. After waiting for the seeds to fully absorb water, remove them, dry the surface moisture, and wait for germination.

3. Germination

Lettuce seeds are different from most vegetables. A low-temperature environment is more favorable for germination. Put the seeds in a cloth bag and place it in the refrigerator for cold germination. It is recommended to control the temperature at 5-10 degrees. During germination, take the seeds out once a day and rinse them with clean water, then continue germinating. This is to provide the seeds with water for germination. Repeat this several times, and after about 4-5 days, the seeds will germinate. When two-thirds of the seeds have germinated, they can be sown. If there is no refrigerator or other refrigeration tool in rural areas, the seeds can be hung in a water well, which can also achieve the purpose of low-temperature germination.
