The Latest Celeriac Planting Techniques and Methods Tutorial
Celeriac is a type of celery whose root is mainly used as the edible part. Celeriac can not only be used for eating, but can also be used for juicing. It has effects such as lowering blood pressure, promoting urination, and improving appetite, and ordinary celery has a milder fragrance and a very low crude fiber content. It is very suitable for elderly people to eat, so how should celeriac be planted? Below, the editor brings you the planting techniques for celeriac, let's take a look together!
1. Planting time
The planting time for celeriac is mainly in spring and autumn. In spring, seedlings are raised in greenhouses in February to March, then transplanted in late April, and under normal management, harvesting can begin in August. Or transplant in late April, then harvest around November. Because the roots of celeriac are more suited to living in a shady and humid environment, during the planting process, under cooler temperature conditions, celeriac grows more healthily and yields are higher. If the summer temperature in a region is too high, then it is only suitable for planting in autumn.
2. Sowing and seedling raising
The seed coat of celeriac is relatively hard and contains a lot of oil, has poor water absorption capacity, and therefore has weak germination ability, poor uniform seedling emergence, and a low germination rate. So raising seedlings is very important. Before sowing, seed soaking and sprout promotion work should be done well, with the water temperature controlled at about 25°C, soaking for about 9 hours. Then wash the seeds clean, air-dry the water, mix them evenly with soil, and then spread them evenly on the seedbed. The seedbed soil should be finely prepared with broken soil, and after applying sufficient base fertilizer, water it thoroughly. Ensure full contact between the seeds and the soil, then control the temperature at about 20°C, strengthen management, and promote seed germination.
3. Timely transplanting
Before transplanting, choose a soft, deep, and sufficiently fertile plot as the transplanting field, then do a good job of clearing the garden, plow the land deeply, and apply an appropriate amount of base fertilizer. After controlling the planting density, transplant appropriately. When digging up seedlings, be careful not to damage the roots of celeriac. Because the roots of celeriac have poor recovery ability, after being injured they will affect growth ability, trigger various diseases and insect pests, cause poor growth of celeriac, and in severe cases lead to death. Therefore, when digging up seedlings, try to transplant with soil, which can both ensure that the roots are not damaged and continue to provide nutrients to celeriac during the transplanting process.
4. Field management
Celeriac likes water during growth, but when watering, do not use flood irrigation. Increase the frequency of watering and reduce the amount of water each time. During the vigorous leaf growth period, follow the principle of not watering if the soil is not dry. During the fleshy root enlargement period, ensure sufficient water, then topdress appropriately, with fertilizers mainly based on phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. Potassium fertilizer can effectively promote the enlargement of the fleshy root of celeriac. Then do a good job of cultivating and weeding to prevent hollowing of celeriac, remove leaves in time, improve field ventilation and light penetration, and avoid excessive consumption of nutrients that affects plant growth.
The above is a brief introduction to celeriac planting techniques. Celeriac has relatively strong growth ability and is relatively simple to plant. However, attention should also be paid to the prevention and control of diseases and insect pests to prevent fatal harm to celeriac. That is all for today's introduction.
