The cherry radish is a rather unusual radish variety. It has the taste of a radish, but its size is far smaller than that of an ordinary radish, being as small as a cherry. Its market [demand] is still relatively large. With the growth in market demand, the planting area of cherry radishes is also becoming wider and wider, but cherry radishes cannot be grown just anywhere. This is because cherry radishes have certain requirements for their growing environment. Below, the editor will introduce the environmental requirements for cherry radish growth!

1. Soil and nutrients

Cherry radishes have strong adaptability and are not strict about soil, but soil quality has a certain effect on the yield and quality of cherry radishes. Therefore, when choosing planting soil, we should mainly use sandy soil that is deep and soft, has strong water- and fertilizer-retention capacity, drains and irrigates normally, and has strong permeability. Cherry radishes have a relatively large demand for nutrients during growth, among which the demand for potassium fertilizer is greater, so the potassium content in the soil must be ensured, followed by nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers. Sufficient nutrients are the key to ensuring the healthy growth of cherry radishes, and are also something we need to pay attention to in cultivation.

2. Temperature

The cherry radish is a temperate vegetable with poor heat tolerance, but it has good cold tolerance. During the growth of cherry radishes, the temperature should be controlled at 8-24 degrees, with the optimum temperature at around 20 degrees, and the optimum temperature for seed germination at around 22 degrees. Each growth stage of the cherry radish has different temperature requirements. For example, during the fleshy root enlargement stage, the temperature should be controlled at around 10-18 degrees. If it is below 5 degrees, the growth rate decreases noticeably and premature bolting is likely to occur. Below zero, it will cause freezing damage, and the temperature must not be too high either; if too high, it reduces the plant's resistance and triggers various diseases and pests.

3. Light

Cherry radishes have relatively high light requirements, and sufficient light must be maintained throughout their entire growth period. Insufficient light will affect the photosynthesis of cherry radishes, reduce the accumulation of photosynthetic substances, and affect the quality of cherry radishes. It causes the enlargement of the fleshy root to be hindered and slows it down. Conversely, sufficient light is very beneficial to the growth of cherry radishes. Maintaining about 13 hours of light per day can advance their flowering period. However, note that direct sunlight should not last too long, otherwise it can easily scorch the plant leaves and instead affect the growth of cherry radishes.

4. Water

Water is very important to the growth of cherry radishes. During cultivation, a uniform water supply must be ensured. From germination to the seedling stage of cherry radishes, keeping the soil moist is sufficient. When cherry radishes enter the vigorous growth period, they should be watered in time, but the water should not be too much; follow the principle of watering more frequently and in smaller amounts, and the soil water content should be kept at around 70%. If there is too little water, the water content of the fleshy root becomes too low, causing pithiness and hollowing, and reducing the nutrient content. The growth rate decreases noticeably, the number of fibrous roots increases, and a spicy taste develops, affecting quality.

The above is a brief introduction to the environmental requirements for cherry radish growth. These are not only the environmental requirements for cherry radishes, but also the key management points in our cultivation process. If these management tasks are not done well, they will have a great impact on the growth of cherry radishes. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
