What are the latest precautions for growing beets?
Beets are native to Europe and are a major sugar-making raw material introduced into our country besides sugarcane. Beets are also divided into garden beets, sugar beets, fodder beets and leaf beets. Although beets can be divided into multiple types, their growing methods are actually much the same. At the same time, there are also some points to note when growing beets. If you are interested, you can take a closer look.
1. Growing conditions
Beets still have certain requirements for the growing environment. Generally speaking, beets are grown in temperate or cold-temperate regions. Next, the growing site is best a sunny plot with relatively flat terrain, loose soil, sufficient fertility and convenient drainage and irrigation. Also, crop rotation must be carried out, and continuous cropping cannot be used, otherwise it will affect the yield and quality of beets.
2. Sprouting
The seed coat of beets is relatively hard and difficult for water to penetrate. If it is not treated, it is not easy for the seeds to sprout. So before planting, we need to treat the beet seeds. Usually, the seeds are first soaked in warm water at about 50 degrees, and during the soaking process they must be stirred constantly so that they are heated evenly, which can ensure the seeds fully absorb water. After soaking for 12 hours, take them out, drain the water, and then they can be sown.
3. Sowing
It is best to sow early at the right time. Generally, sowing can be carried out when the surface temperature is about 5 degrees. Next, when sowing, we generally use a beet-specific air-suction precision hill-drop planter for sowing on or under plastic film. When sowing, the rows must be straight, the sowing must be uniform, and the depth must be consistent. The row spacing for sowing is generally about 50 to 60 cm, and the plant spacing is about 20 to 30 cm.
4. Fertilizer and water management
Fertilizer and water management is also very important in the beet growing process. If fertilizer and water management is improper, it will directly affect the yield and quality of beets. During the seedling growth stage of beets, topdressing and watering are generally not needed. When it reaches the vigorous growth period, its fertilizer and water needs will increase sharply, so at this time we need to reasonably configure the use ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. During the rainy season, attention must be paid to drainage, and at the same time the soil must be loosened and earthed up, so as to avoid soil compaction and affect the normal growth of beets.
The above are several small issues to note in the process of growing beets, but these small issues still have a very large impact on beet growth, so we need to be even more careful when growing them. As much as possible, while reducing costs, improve the yield and quality of beets.
