Chinese chives are a side vegetable that many people enjoy eating very much, and the planting area of Chinese chives is also very wide, and in rural areas almost every household grows Chinese chives on a small scale. But in fact growing Chinese chives is not such a simple matter, especially for large-scale growers. A good growing environment has a great relationship with the yield and quality of Chinese chives. Below, the editor brings you the environmental requirements of Chinese chives, let's take a look!

1. Temperature

Chinese chives have a relatively strong ability to adapt to temperature, but a suitable temperature is the key to ensuring healthy growth of Chinese chives and increasing yield. After sowing, keeping the temperature at around 16-17 degrees can promote seed germination. During their growth period, the temperature needs to be raised to around 20 degrees. Chinese chives have a relatively strong cold resistance, but if the temperature is below minus 5 degrees, the leaves will suffer frost damage and gradually wither. The temperature must not be too high; when the temperature is above 30 degrees, although leaf growth can be accelerated, the water content will also increase, and they are easily scorched, so when planting it is best to keep the temperature between 19-23 degrees.

2. Light

The growth of Chinese chives has relatively strict requirements for light, and the light requirement of Chinese chives is moderate. If the light is too strong, it will cause the leaf fiber to increase, becoming coarse and hard, leading to premature aging of the plant and reducing yield and quality. And the light should not be too weak either; if the light is too weak, photosynthesis of Chinese chives is limited, causing the leaf color to lose green, the leaves to become smaller, and insufficient tillering, reducing yield. And during important periods such as bolting and flowering of Chinese chives, attention should be paid to ensuring sufficient sunlight; suitable light can ensure the growth of Chinese chives, enhance quality, and increase yield.

3. Water

Water also plays a great role in the growth of Chinese chives. Although Chinese chives have relatively strong drought tolerance, suitable water can ensure robust growth of Chinese chives. During the planting process, we need to control the field humidity at around 65%, and the soil water content should also reach around 90%. If there is insufficient water, it will cause premature ripening of Chinese chives, aging of leaves, and the quality will be greatly affected. But water should not be too much either; too much water easily causes various diseases and insect pests, leading to waterlogging and rotting of the roots of Chinese chives. Therefore we must reasonably adjust the watering work according to soil moisture and weather changes.

4. Soil

Chinese chives have a relatively strong growth ability and can quickly adapt to various soils for normal growth. However, because Chinese chives have few roots and a shallow distribution, they have a large demand for water and fertilizer. So when planting, we should try to choose soil rich in organic matter, with deep soil layers, loose and fertile, and strong water and fertilizer retention for planting. Moreover, the soil has a large demand for nutrients, so during the planting process we also need to do a good job of topdressing and reasonably adjust the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers. Prevent nutrient imbalance from causing undesirable phenomena such as excessive growth and thin leaves in Chinese chives.

The above is a brief introduction to the environmental requirements of Chinese chives. Chinese chives have a relatively strong growth ability, although they do not have particularly strict requirements for the growing environment. But a good and suitable growing environment has the effect of getting twice the result with half the effort. Finally, these are also the management tasks we need to do well during the planting process. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
