The normal sowing season for cilantro is generally in spring each year, because cilantro prefers to grow in a cool environment. However, in summer, some people also grow it out of season to meet market demand. Out-of-season cilantro cultivation requires attention to temperature, environment, and various other factors, and its market price will also rise somewhat. So how should cilantro be grown out of season? Below, the editor brings you the out-of-season cultivation techniques for cilantro. Let's take a look!

1. Seed treatment

Before planting, choose seeds that are free of pests and diseases, free of wounds, and high-yielding, because cilantro seeds have relatively weak germination ability in a high-temperature environment. Therefore, before planting, the seeds also need to be soaked and pregerminated. First, soak the seeds in a fungicide such as carbendazim for about 30 minutes, then remove them and rinse them clean with clear water. Then soak them in cold water for about one day, then wrap them in a wet cloth and place them in an environment of about 22-24 degrees for pregermination. It is best to turn the seeds over once a day. When about 80% of the seeds have sprouted, they can be sown.

2. Land preparation and fertilization

The soil for planting cilantro needs to be chosen in a place with normal drainage and irrigation, loose and deep texture, and sufficient fertility. Then prepare the land to a depth of about 22 cm, and set up shade measures. To make it convenient to set up shade measures, the beds should be prepared to a specification of 110*25*35 cm in height, width, and height. The growth cycle of cilantro is relatively short, so we also need to apply sufficient base fertilizer, mainly decomposed farmyard manure, supplemented by compound fertilizer. Mix the fertilizer thoroughly with the soil to improve soil fertility, promote the growth of cilantro, and then level the bed surface ready for planting.

3. Timely cultivation

When sowing in summer and autumn, sowing is generally carried out around June each year. At sowing time, pay attention to the sowing rate. The sowing rate per mu should not exceed two jin. An appropriate sowing rate can both ensure yield and improve the quality of cilantro. Then when sowing, be sure to pay attention to sowing density to prevent overly dense growth and mutual interference with growth. Water sufficiently to improve soil moisture, spread the seeds evenly over the soil, cover with fine soil after sowing, then cover with film and grass to improve the soil's moisture-holding capacity, remove them after about a week, and pay attention to keeping the soil moist before seedlings emerge.

4. Field management

Summer temperatures are relatively high, which has a relatively large impact on the growth of cilantro. Therefore, after removing the plastic film and rice straw, promptly set up a shade net. The shade net should be opened at night to improve field ventilation. Prevent excessive enclosure from causing cilantro seedlings to be slender and weak and triggering various pests and diseases. Then start thinning about one week after full emergence, following the principle of keeping the strong and removing the weak. When about two leaves have grown, final thinning should be done in time, controlling the plant spacing at about 3 cm. After final thinning, water about once a week, and start topdressing when the seedlings grow to about 4 cm. In the middle and later stages, pay attention to the application of foliar fertilizer to promote leaf growth.

The above is a brief introduction to out-of-season cilantro cultivation techniques. When growing cilantro out of season, special attention should also be paid to pest and disease control. Give priority to prevention and combine multiple control methods together to reduce the incidence of pests and diseases. That is all for today's introduction.
