The Latest Cauliflower High-Yield Cultivation and Management Techniques Tutorial
Cauliflower, also known as caihua and broccoli, is a vegetable we often eat in daily life. It tastes good, is highly nutritious, and offers fairly decent economic returns, and it is widely cultivated across the country. But if you want to obtain higher returns, you need to find ways to increase the yield, so how should cauliflower be managed to achieve high yield? Let's take a look together.
1. Cultivating strong seedlings
Cultivating high-quality seedlings is one of the key points for achieving high yield in cauliflower. First, choose land with good drainage and irrigation conditions that is loose and fertile, apply fully decomposed organic fertilizer while preparing the soil, then disinfect and sterilize the soil, and plow deeply and level it. Select seeds of a variety with excellent quality and sow them in summer from June to July. Before sowing, water the seedbed thoroughly, spread the seeds evenly over the seedbed, cover with 3 cm of soil, and cover with grass for shade. Seedlings will emerge in about one week. After the seedlings emerge, promptly remove the grass and shade net. When the cotyledons of the seedlings unfold, thin the seedlings while weeding. When the seedlings grow 5-6 leaves, they can be transplanted.
2. Transplanting
Choose a plot with high terrain, good drainage, and no tendency to accumulate water. The previous crop should not be other cruciferous vegetables, otherwise pests and diseases are very likely to occur. When preparing the soil, apply 2000-3000 kg of farmyard manure and 50 kg of compound fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer, and adopt flat-bed or ridged cultivation. When transplanting, likewise water thoroughly, transplant with soil attached, and be careful not to damage the root system. The transplanting time must be chosen for a sunny morning or a cloudy day, so as to avoid strong sunlight affecting the survival rate. The transplanting density must be well controlled, generally 2000-3000 plants per mu is suitable.
3. Field management
After transplanting, water immediately, and thereafter water once every 2-3 days. This helps the transplanted seedlings survive. After the seedlings survive, carry out intertillage and weeding, but note that the intertillage depth should not be too deep, so as not to damage the root system and cause the seedlings to die. Weed frequently and keep the field free of weeds. If cultivating on ridges, before the rows close, combine intertillage with earthing up and fertilizing. It is recommended to apply 10-15 kg of urea per mu, and water promptly after fertilizing so that the fertilizer leaches down. When the plants begin to twist and grow, 15 kg of potassium sulfate can be applied per mu and flushed with water. During the curd-forming stage, keep the soil moist.
