Konjac is a perennial herbaceous plant of the Araceae family, with a history of cultivation and consumption in China of nearly two thousand years. Konjac has extremely high nutritional value and also offers various benefits such as lowering blood lipids, nourishing the skin and dispersing toxins, and stimulating the appetite and relieving constipation, making it a very green food. At present, China's konjac planting area is also relatively large, but it cannot be grown just anywhere, because konjac growth has certain requirements for the environment. Below, the editor will introduce the environmental requirements for konjac growth!

1. Temperature

Temperature is an important factor ensuring the growth and development of konjac. It is relatively suitable for growing in a warm environment, and during its growth the optimal temperature should be maintained at around 20 degrees. The annual average temperature should also be maintained at around 15 degrees; if the temperature is below 12 degrees, it will inhibit the growth of konjac roots. During tuber expansion, the temperature range should be controlled at around 22-24 degrees. During the dormant period of konjac, the minimum temperature must not be lower than minus 5 degrees, otherwise frost damage is very likely to occur. Therefore, when planting, you must maintain the temperature well and ensure it is within the suitable growth range for konjac.

2. Light

Although konjac is a tropical organism, it has little demand for light and has strong shade tolerance. Moreover, direct sunlight is unfavorable to konjac growth, and its requirements for light intensity are weak and for duration are short. Therefore, when planting, we should pay attention to controlling light and do a good job of shading. The light intensity requirement for the aboveground part of the konjac plant must not exceed 2/3 of sunlight, while the roots only need dim light for growth. If the light is unsuitable, it will have a great impact on konjac growth, so direct sunlight on konjac must be prevented.

3. Moisture

Konjac has relatively high water requirements and likes to grow in soil with high water content, rich humus, and good drainage and irrigation. Although konjac can emerge normally relying on the water stored in the tuber, if the soil water content is insufficient, it is very unfavorable to the growth of konjac seedlings and tuber expansion. The soil water content must be maintained at around 77% to ensure normal konjac growth. However, it must not be too wet either; if it is too wet, it will reduce soil permeability and also inhibit the growth of roots and corms. Therefore, when there is too much water, attention should be paid to drainage to prevent pests and diseases, avoid corm and root rot, and reduce planting benefits.

4. Soil

Konjac has relatively strong growth ability and can grow normally in various soils, adapting relatively quickly. However, if artificial cultivation is intended to increase yield and quality, it is still necessary to choose soil with deep soil layers, high looseness, strong permeability, and good drainage and irrigation, so as to better ensure konjac growth. This can effectively increase konjac yield and enhance quality. In addition, konjac is suitable for growing in neutral to slightly acidic soil, so we should also maintain the soil pH at around 7 to promote konjac growth.

The above is a brief introduction to the environmental condition requirements for konjac growth. Konjac growth has relatively many requirements for the environment. Therefore, everyone should not plant blindly and should pay attention to doing the preparatory work well to ensure a good growing environment. That is all for today's introduction.
