The straw mushroom, also known as the orchid mushroom, is the third largest cultivated edible fungus in the world, and China's annual straw mushroom output ranks first in the world. It has a delicious taste and is rich in nutrients, and is deeply loved by people on the market. However, it has relatively strict requirements for the cultivation environment. Let's take a look together below at the precautions for growing straw mushrooms.

1. Culture substrate

The straw mushroom has relatively strict requirements for the cultivation environment. Its growth generally needs compounds, minerals and nitrogen elements to provide nutrients, and it also needs certain vitamins, so when cultivating it, rice straw can be chosen, but clean rice straw must be chosen, and damp or moldy straw must not be chosen. If there is no rice straw, crops such as waste cotton and peanut vines can also be chosen, and applying some cow dung and cornmeal can serve as its nutrient source. In addition, unlike other edible fungi, its edible fungus needs to be alkaline, so pay attention to this point.

2. Temperature

The straw mushroom has high requirements for temperature. It is itself a high-temperature fungus, and the suitable growth temperature is between 28-30 degrees. The maximum should not exceed 40 degrees, and the minimum must not be lower than 10 degrees, otherwise its growth will stagnate, and in severe cases it will lead to death. Therefore, during cultivation, always pay attention to temperature changes. In winter, when the temperature is lower, the temperature of the mushroom shed should be raised to the threshold suitable for its growth; while in summer, when the temperature is higher, cooling measures should be taken.

3. Light

The biggest difference between the straw mushroom and other fungi is light. During growth, it cannot absorb carbon dioxide and water and convert them into organic matter, so during cultivation, be sure to pay attention and do not let it receive direct sunlight. During cultivation, weak scattered light is enough, and it should not be directly exposed to sunlight, especially during periods of high temperature and strong light in summer, otherwise the yield and quality will be seriously affected.

4. Humidity

Because of its special characteristics, it has a very high demand for water and oxygen, and it can carry out photosynthesis without light, so during cultivation, be sure to open windows in a timely manner for ventilation and air exchange, release carbon dioxide, and increase its demand for oxygen. Its demand for water is also relatively high, but it must not be directly soaked in water, so as to avoid causing its death. The water content of the culture material is most suitable when controlled at 70%.
