As spring arrives, summer is not far behind, and luffa gradually enters its peak growing season. Now is also exactly the sowing season for luffa, and farmers are gradually beginning their luffa sowing work. During the growth process of luffa, if we want to ensure high yield and good quality, we need to do a good job of field management. So today, the editor brings you the key points of luffa field management. Let's take a look below!

1. Planting management

After luffa is planted, attention should be paid to building a small arch shed to prevent excessive ventilation, raise the temperature inside the shed, and shorten the time for luffa seedlings to recover from transplanting. After the luffa seedlings have successfully recovered, ethephon should be sprayed appropriately to prevent the seedlings from growing too vigorously and to increase the number of female flowers. It should also be watered once in time to promote seedling establishment. When the luffa seedlings have grown to about 28 cm tall, supports should be set up properly, and then the vines should be reasonably guided onto the trellis. Be careful to remove side vines to promote fruit set on the main vine. When the vines enter the growth period, water and fertilizer management should be done well.

2. Fertilizer and water management

The growth period of luffa is relatively short. Generally, it can set fruit about one month after planting. In summer, fertilizer should be applied about 3 times, with a heavy application at the early flowering stage. The fertilizer should mainly be compound fertilizer, and because luffa can set fruit continuously, topdressing is needed once every 2 harvests. The main fertilizers are nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers. After luffa enters the vine-extending stage, its water requirement is relatively high, so on sunny days it should be watered twice a day. In addition to timely watering during the harvest period, a water layer of about 15 cm should also be kept in the planting furrow, but the water should not be excessive. When there is a lot of rain and excessive watering, attention should also be paid to drainage.

3. Vine training and leaf pruning

When the main vine of luffa grows to 30 cm, supports should be inserted in time. After inserting the supports, the vines should not be guided immediately. Work such as coiling and pressing the main vine should be done well, and only after female flowers appear should the vines be guided at the appropriate time. When guiding the vines, be careful to distribute them evenly on the supports. In this way, about 3 fruit-bearing luffas can be retained on the main vine. If the luffa becomes curved, hanging the fruit should also be done in time. First tie the lower end of the fruit stalk with a small rope, then tie a small stone to the other end of the rope and pull it straight. This is usually done about 3 days after harvest. Finally, be careful to remove old and weak leaves to prevent excessive nutrient consumption.

If the harvest period is earlier and no trellis has been set up, then during planting, cultivation and weeding must be done once between the rows. Weeds should be removed in time to prevent them from competing for the nutrients needed for luffa growth, and then the soil should be loosened and finely raked to facilitate luffa growth and later management. After trellising, cultivation should be reasonably carried out according to the actual growth of weeds, but care should be taken with the intensity to prevent damaging the luffa roots. Also, after each cultivation, soil should be hilled up once to prevent the roots from being exposed to the air and affecting root growth.

The above is a brief introduction to the key points of luffa field management. Luffa management work has a great relationship with the growth, yield, and quality of luffa. Therefore, it also directly affects the economic benefits of planting, so everyone must do the basic work well when planting to avoid losses. That is all for today's introduction.
