What are the latest propagation methods for Chinese toon?
Chinese toon is a very common wild vegetable, highly popular in our country and with a large market. The leaves of Chinese toon are edible and have relatively high nutritional value. Now Chinese toon is basically grown in all parts of our country, and when growing Chinese toon, how to propagate it is a problem we all need to take seriously. So how should we propagate it when growing it? Below, the editor brings you the propagation methods for Chinese toon, let's take a look!
1. Seed propagation
Seed propagation is the most common seedling-raising method for Chinese toon, and also the method with the best seedling-raising results. Before sowing, we must first soak the seeds in warm water at about 25°C for about 10 hours. Then take them out, wash them clean, and place them in a germination bag to carry out germination work. The germination bag should be kept at a temperature of about 25°C, and when more than half of the seeds have sprouted white, they are ready for sowing. The sowing time for Chinese toon seeds is generally around Qingming Festival, and under normal management, they can be transplanted and planted out by autumn. After sowing, management should be strengthened to prevent diseases such as root rot from threatening the growth of Chinese toon.
2. Division propagation
For division propagation, we must first choose a robustly growing Chinese toon tree free of pests and diseases as the mother plant. Then dig a trench in the ground at the base of the mother plant to expose the roots, and select strong, vigorously growing root sprouts with a diameter of about 1 cm for division of the root. When severing the roots, we must be careful not to damage the large root system, so as to avoid affecting the growth of the mother plant. The cut of the severed root must be kept smooth, and after severing the root, disinfection work must be done well on the cut of the mother plant's severed root. Then apply an appropriate amount of organic fertilizer to promote root healing and plant growth. Then plant the root sprouts at the right time, strengthen fertilizer and water management, and promote the growth of the root sprouts; under normal management, about three sprout seedlings can newly grow each year.
3. Root cutting propagation
For root cutting propagation, first select roots with a diameter of about 0.6-0.9 cm, then cut them into cuttings of about 12 cm. Then, according to the thickness of the root, cut the thick part flat, and make an oblique cut on the thin part as the insertion end. Then before inserting, soak them in a solution such as butyric acid for about 30 minutes. After soaking, insert the cuttings into the seedling bed. Control the temperature at about 28°C and the humidity at about 78%. Then cover with a layer of plastic film to improve the soil's heat preservation and moisture retention capacity. After sprouting, keep no more than one bud per cutting, then transplant when the seedlings grow to about 31 cm.
4. Cutting propagation
Cutting propagation is also a common propagation method for Chinese toon, usually carried out around Qingming Festival in spring. First we must choose a robustly growing mother plant, then select from the mother plant strong branches of the current year that have not yet fully lignified. Cut them into about 15 cm pieces, then carry out disinfection and root promotion work on the cuttings, soaking the cuttings in a solution such as butyric acid for about 45 minutes. Then dip the cutting end in rooting agent, which can effectively increase the rooting rate of the cuttings. After the preparatory work is done, insert the cuttings into the seedling bed and strengthen management.
The above is a brief introduction to how Chinese toon is propagated; there are many propagation methods for Chinese toon. We should reasonably choose the propagation method for Chinese toon according to the actual situation.
