You have presumably all heard of Toona sinensis (Chinese mahogany). It is a vegetable with very high nutritional value in our country and falls under the category of wild vegetables. Because market demand keeps rising, the planting area of Toona sinensis is also becoming more and more extensive. When planting Toona sinensis, propagation is a very important step. The propagation method used most often for Toona sinensis today is mainly sowing. So how should Toona sinensis seeds be planted? Now let the editor introduce it to everyone below!

1. Harvesting Seeds

The fruiting period of Toona sinensis is relatively long; generally, it does not enter the fruiting period until about 8 years after planting. When collecting seeds, we should choose a Toona sinensis tree about 20 years old with strong growth, high fruit yield and no pests or diseases as the mother plant. When the fruit turns from green to a dark color, it means it has matured. At this time it can be harvested. After harvesting, the fruit should be placed under the sun and exposed for about a week. Until the fruit's moisture evaporates and the pericarp cracks open to reveal the seeds. Then remove the impurities completely, put them into a storage bag and store them. The germination rate of fresh seeds harvested in the same year can reach about 85%.

2. Choosing and Preparing the Land

After collecting seeds, we should choose soil with good drainage and irrigation, sufficient moisture and a sandy texture as the planting plot. Then in spring, finely prepare and rake the soil, and according to the soil area control the specifications of the beds well, and make the beds ready for planting. After making the beds, apply sufficient base fertilizer, mainly decomposed farmyard manure, supplemented by phosphate fertilizer. Be careful to control the amount well: keep farmyard manure at about 1500 jin/mu, and phosphate fertilizer at about 50 jin/mu. And appropriately spray insecticides such as trichlorfon to eliminate pests. Then plow the soil once to fully mix the soil with the pesticide and fertilizer, and water thoroughly about one week before sowing.

3. Seed Germination

After doing the preliminary preparation work, the seeds also need to be treated for germination. First, about one week before sowing, put the seeds into warm water at about 50°C, stirring for about 5 minutes at the beginning. Then soak the seeds for about one day. After soaking, take them out and wash them clean, then put them into wet sand or a bag, ensure sufficient moisture, and then place the bag at a temperature of about 25°C for germination. During germination, wash the seeds once every day. When more than half of the seeds have cracked and turned white, they can be sown.

4. Sowing at the Right Time

The sowing time for Toona sinensis seeds is generally around March to April, and the sowing work should be done before Grain Rain. The sowing method for Toona sinensis is generally mainly drilling. First dig the sowing furrows on the bed surface, and control the row spacing at about 36 cm. Then water the sowing furrows to moisten the soil. After the water has soaked through the soil, spread the seeds evenly and comprehensively into the sowing furrows, cover with a layer of fine soil after sowing, and then water thoroughly. After the seedlings successfully emerge, do a good job of seedling management, and thin the seedlings in time when about 5 true leaves have grown.

The above is a brief introduction to how to plant Toona sinensis seeds. The growth cycle of Toona sinensis is relatively long. Therefore we should do a good job of management, strengthen planting techniques, and maintain a certain patience. That is all for today's introduction. This article is for reference only.
