Chili pepper is a side dish with a very long history in China, and it has a wide planting area in China. In fact, eating an appropriate amount of chili pepper is also very good for your health; chili pepper has the effect of warming the middle and dispelling cold. It is mainly used to treat abdominal distension and pain, diarrhea and dysentery, chilblains, etc. So how exactly should chili peppers be grown? Today Xiaobai brings you the cultivation techniques for chili peppers. Let's take a look below!

1. Land preparation and fertilization

Chili peppers should be grown in rotation, and the previous crop soil should not be potatoes, tomatoes or other crops of the same family. The soil should maintain normal drainage and irrigation and sufficient fertility. Deep plow the soil to improve soil structure, preferably in winter, which can destroy the overwintering sites of pathogens and pests and reduce the incidence of pests and diseases. It can also improve soil permeability and promote the absorption of nutrients and water. Reduce the phenomenon of flower and leaf drop in chili peppers, then make beds and apply fertilizer. The base fertilizer should mainly be decomposed farmyard manure, with compound fertilizer as the main type, to provide sufficient nutrients for the growth of chili peppers.

2. Propagation methods

The seedling bed for chili peppers should be chosen in a ventilated and sunny place with sufficient water sources. Then do the soil heating work, splash human and livestock manure water, and then cover with film to improve water and fertilizer retention capacity. Chili pepper seeds have relatively strong germination ability, so in general they do not need to be pre-germinated. Choose the sowing time according to the variety, generally sowing in early spring. After sowing, cover with a layer of fine soil, preferably so that the seeds cannot be seen. Then water thoroughly, and after the water has completely penetrated, cover with plastic film. If conditions permit, build a small arch shed to prevent the chili peppers from being damaged by wind.

3. Seedling stage management

After the chili pepper seeds have successfully emerged, uncover the film to prevent the seedlings from becoming leggy. However, after the sun gradually sets in the afternoon, the plastic film should still be put back. On rainy days, ventilation work should also be done as much as possible. If the soil is dry and turns white, then water it in time. Do not choose noon for watering, to prevent the formation of a high-temperature and high-humidity environment. After watering, pay attention to whether the amount of water is sufficient; if there is still a lack of water, then replenish watering in time. When the temperature is too low, watering should not be done to prevent cold damage. When the seedlings have two true leaves, carry out pricking out, control the plant and row spacing well, and do the watering work well.

4. Field planting management

When the soil temperature stabilizes above 16 degrees, field planting can be carried out at the proper time, control the planting density well, and it should not be done on cloudy and rainy days. After field planting, carry out one intertillage, and after entering the growth period, do it appropriately according to the actual situation. Then on sunny days, do the topdressing work well, and pay attention to the amount to prevent insufficient nutrients or excessive vegetative growth, which would delay the flowering and fruiting period. Especially during the fruit-setting period and harvest period, there should be sufficient fertilizer and water to ensure normal flowering and fruiting of chili peppers. Finally, we should pay attention to observing the weather, and control the amount and timing of watering according to weather changes. It should not be done during high-temperature periods; it is best to water in the morning and evening.

The above is a brief introduction to chili pepper cultivation techniques. During the planting process, we should also do a good job in pest and disease control and pruning to enhance the growth ability of chili peppers, increase the number of flowers and fruits, and expand planting benefits.
