Baby bok choy is a vegetable that everyone loves very much, and it is also one of the vegetables with good promotion prospects on the market at present. When growing baby bok choy, it is susceptible to infection by pests and diseases, which affects its yield and quality and also brings certain losses to farmers. Below, let's take a look at the pest and disease control techniques for baby bok choy.

1. Soft rot

This is a common disease when growing baby bok choy. It mainly harms the base of the stem. When the disease occurs, the stem base rots and is accompanied by a foul odor, and in humid environments it secretes a yellow sticky substance.

Control technique: Streptomycin can be used for foliar spraying, once every 7-10 days, for 2-3 consecutive times, with good results. It can also promote head formation. To prevent this disease, a water-mist formulation can be sprayed during the rosette stage, or diluted with water and used to drench the roots, which has a good preventive effect.

2. Downy mildew

This is a fungal disease that can occur from the seedling stage to the harvest stage of baby bok choy. It mainly harms the leaf parts of baby bok choy. When the disease occurs, the leaves wilt, and in severe cases the leaves wither and turn yellow until the entire plant dies.

Control method: There are many control measures for this disease. A 500-fold dilution of downy mildew control agent can be used for spray control. When the condition is severe, a 600-800-fold dilution of Previcur SL can be used for control, with good results.

3. Damping-off

This disease is also called seedling collapse or little-foot blight. It is also a fungal disease. When it occurs, the stems of baby bok choy become weak and gradually bend and fall over. In severe cases, large-area death occurs, causing great harm.

Control method: Prevention should be the main approach for this disease. During management, fertilizer and water management should be strengthened, and attention should be paid to field humidity and aeration so that the plants grow normally. Spray a 400-600-fold dilution of Previcur for disinfection and prevention.

4. Pests

There are three main pests of baby bok choy. The first is aphids, which gather on the leaves and continuously suck the leaf sap. In severe cases, they cause the leaves to lose water and wither, and they also spread diseases. The second is the diamondback moth, which is somewhat similar to aphids and also sucks the sap of baby bok choy. The third is the cabbage caterpillar, which is different from the previous two because it continuously chews the plants. In severe cases, the leaves of the plants can be chewed clean, making it one of the natural enemies of vegetables.

Control method: For aphids, pesticides can be used. Fenvalerate EC and deltamethrin EC can both eliminate them, but attention should be paid to the concentration, and they should be used alternately to avoid developing resistance. For the diamondback moth, Caixi suspension concentrate and Uranus EC can be used, while for the cabbage caterpillar, Shuguojing or Kung Fu EC can be used for control.
