Kohlrabi is a biennial plant of the cruciferous family, also known as stem turnip. Because kohlrabi has a sweet taste, tender flesh, and a crisp, delicate texture, combined with its rich nutritional content, its sales on the market are also very good. For this reason, kohlrabi is widely cultivated in various regions of China. To ensure the yield and quality of kohlrabi, we have specially brought you the field management techniques for kohlrabi cultivation today. Let's take a look.

1. Fertilization

Kohlrabi has a relatively large demand for nutrients and is a fertilizer-loving plant, but when fertilizing, we also need to proceed scientifically according to the plant's nutrient requirements, growth conditions, and planting season. In addition to base fertilizer, we also need to apply topdressing at different growth stages. In terms of fertilization, nitrogen fertilizer is mainly used, with appropriate use of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. During the growth period of kohlrabi, nitrogen fertilizer is generally applied in holes, or manure and urine water is used for irrigation, and an appropriate amount of urea can be added to the manure and urine water. When kohlrabi begins to form heads, we need to appropriately supplement phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to enhance the plant's resistance and prevent the plant from aging. Finally, during the head-forming process, it is also necessary to appropriately supplement trace element fertilizers such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc.

2. Watering

The growth of kohlrabi requires a large amount of water, so we need to water multiple times during the cultivation process. After kohlrabi is transplanted, it should be watered promptly and thoroughly. Then, if there is no rainfall after three days, water again. The next watering should be one week later. This watering should be carried out reasonably according to the moisture level of the soil. It should not be too wet, but it should also be thoroughly moistened. Then, each time topdressing is applied dry, we had best water after fertilizing. Also, when kohlrabi begins to form heads, the water demand during this period is very large, and it should be watered at least three or four times to supplement water, so that the kohlrabi grown will be more tender and crisp. Finally, we should remind everyone that waterlogging should not occur in the field, and if it does, drainage should be carried out immediately.

3. Weeding

During the growth process of kohlrabi, we also need to weed the kohlrabi, generally by means of cultivation. This can not only clean up the weeds in the field, but also enhance soil permeability, improve nutrient absorption rates, and promote plant growth. During the entire growth process of kohlrabi, it is generally necessary to carry out two to three times, but all must be completed before the canopy closes. If there are still weeds after the canopy closes, then only manual pulling of weeds can be done.

4. Pest and Disease Prevention

During the cultivation process, we also need to pay attention to the prevention and control of pests and diseases. The main diseases include viral disease, black rot, and soft rot. So the first thing we need to do is disinfect the field soil with lime water before planting kohlrabi. The second is to pay attention to planting density, which should not be too high. The last is to use Bordeaux mixture and chlorothalonil for prevention and control. The most harmful pests include aphids, cabbage caterpillars, and diamondback moths. So we had best use low-toxicity pyrethroid insecticides for prevention and control, but note that no spraying can be done at all within half a month before harvest.

In terms of cultivation techniques, kohlrabi is actually not much different from cabbage. Many aspects are similar to cabbage cultivation, so it is also very simple to grow. We believe that after reading the above, everyone basically understands it clearly.
