Amaranth is also called water amaranth, red amaranth, tassel flower, and Han vegetable. It is an annual herbaceous plant with the effect of loosening the bowels and clearing heat. Amaranth is highly adaptable to the environment and is grown throughout our country, and there are also quite a few wild amaranth resources. But today we are mainly here to learn about a few things to note when growing amaranth artificially. Let us take a look below.

1. Soil

Amaranth likes slightly alkaline soil. It grows very poorly in soil with poor drainage and is prone to disease. This also shows that when choosing a planting site for amaranth, it is best to choose according to the growing habits of amaranth, for example, choosing a plot with flat terrain, convenient drainage and irrigation, few grass weeds, fertile soil, loose texture, and sufficient sunlight. Another thing to note is that continuous cropping is not allowed. Plots where the previous crop was an amaranth-family plant cannot be used for planting.

2. Temperature

Amaranth is also quite sensitive to growing temperature. At present, planting generally requires a temperature above ten degrees for sprouting, and the best temperature for seed sprouting is 15 to 20 degrees. The best temperature for amaranth growth is around 18 to 25 degrees. In general, the temperature of the planting site must not be lower than 10 degrees at minimum, and must not exceed 30 degrees at maximum, otherwise both the yield and quality of amaranth will be affected.

3. Weeding

In the early stage of amaranth growth, amaranth is very susceptible to weed damage, which seriously affects the survival of amaranth. In the early stage of amaranth growth, intertillage weeding needs to be carried out as early as possible, but mainly by shallow weeding so as not to damage the root system of amaranth. In the middle and late stages of amaranth growth, if weeds appear in the field again, then the only option is to pull the weeds by hand.

4. Watering

Amaranth has a certain degree of drought tolerance, but if you want amaranth to grow well, watering work is also very important. After amaranth emerges, if the soil has a certain degree of moisture, then when supplementing water, a spray-style watering method is generally used, but if the soil is relatively dry, then the amount of water needs to be appropriately increased. During the growth of amaranth, if the temperature rises and the weather becomes dry, in order to ensure the quality of amaranth, water needs to be supplemented just right. The last thing to note is that besides watering, we also need to pay attention to drainage, and this situation generally occurs in continuous rainy weather or cloudy and rainy weather.

5. Fertilizing

In order to promote the growth of amaranth, fertilizing can be key, and fertilizing also follows a pattern. After amaranth emerges, when it reaches about 10 cm, the first fertilizing is needed, usually by mixing urea with water and applying it. After half a month, apply the second fertilizer, also using urea, and of course manure and urine water can also be used. The last thing to note is that because amaranth is harvested in batches and can be harvested multiple times, after each harvest remember to apply additional fertilizer to promote the growth of the heart leaves of amaranth and increase the yield of amaranth.
