Edamame is a common vegetable, rich in nutrients and good in taste, and deeply loved by the people, but during the growth of edamame, the harm of pests and diseases can affect its yield and quality. So what are the common pests and diseases of edamame? How should they be controlled? Let's find out together.

1. Downy mildew

It generally harms the leaves, and the lesions usually appear on the upper leaves. In the early stage, the outline of the lesions is not obvious and they are light yellow, then they turn black, and light purple mold layers are densely covered on the underside of the leaves. When the humidity is higher, the disease is more severe.

Control methods: Choose varieties with strong disease resistance, apply more organic fertilizer, and plant at a reasonable density to enhance the disease resistance of the plants. When the disease occurs, spray mancozeb or propamocarb aqueous solution for control, using it three times in a row with an interval of 7 days each time.

2. Powdery mildew

It mainly occurs during the pod-setting stage, generally on the middle and lower leaves of the plant. In the early stage, nearly round powdery white mold appears on the leaves, then merges into powdery spots, and in severe cases covers the entire leaf. When the plants grow poorly and have weak disease resistance, they are extremely susceptible, and alternating dry and wet conditions are more conducive to the spread of this disease.

Control methods: Choose varieties with strong disease resistance. For plants with weaker growth, spray amino acid foliar fertilizer to enhance disease resistance. In the early stage of the disease, spray 80% mancozeb wettable powder at 800 times dilution for control.

3. Rust

When the disease occurs, small white raised spots appear on the leaves, which gradually become yellow-brown raised blister spots. On the upper surface of leaves with blister spots, chlorotic spots also appear. When the disease is severe, the lesions join together, causing the leaves to wither, yellow and fall off. The control methods for this disease are similar to those for powdery mildew.

4. Anthracnose

It mainly harms the pods and later also harms the beans. After infection, the pods form small brown lesions, which later turn black. In a high-humidity environment, small black dots arranged in concentric rings appear on the lesions. The disease is more severe under high temperature and high humidity and in alternating sunny and rainy conditions. The spread of this disease is relatively fast, and it can expand rapidly 2-3 days after onset, so pesticides should be applied in time for prevention according to weather changes.

Control methods: Choose varieties with strong disease resistance. When the disease occurs, spray thiophanate-methyl at 600-800 times dilution for control.
