What causes curved peppers? An analysis of the latest reasons

The normal shape of peppers is generally straight, but in cultivation and production it is often found that besides straight ones, there are also many curved ones, sometimes even ones curved into a loop, and there are also peppers curved to the point of being twisted. So why is this? Why do they grow abnormally? How should this abnormality be avoided, and how should this phenomenon be prevented? Now let us go and look for the answers together.

1. Poor pollination

During the flowering period, low temperature, high temperature, or heavy rain may occur. This causes poor flowering, and sometimes the pollen loses its vitality and becomes useless, and pollination also cannot achieve fertilization or fertilization is poor. Fruits with poor fertilization grow abnormally, becoming deformed and curved, and cannot maintain a normal shape. Estimate the timing roughly, try not to let the flowering period encounter rain, and it can be sown appropriately early; there is also the option of artificial pollination to ensure successful fertilization.

2. Insufficient light

If the planting site is too shady and cannot receive light, then insufficient light affects flower bud differentiation, producing deformed flowers. If deformed flowers happen to develop, they will cause deformed fruits, and the fruits will also show a curved phenomenon. It is best to plant on land facing the sun, and not to plant on land surrounded by dense forest or tall trees. For greenhouse planting, it should face south with its back to the north, and the film should be chosen with good light transmittance.

3. Malnutrition

When the soil lacks nutrients, or when the soil itself is barren, it will lead to poor plant growth vigor and insufficient nutrient supply. First it will supply itself to the plant, and the fruits lack nutrients, so they cannot keep up with growth, and then the fruits become curved. In the early stage of growth, nitrogen fertilizer should be controlled so that growth is not too vigorous; in the later stage, nutrients will be competed for by the fruits, so fertilization should be applied separately, and nutrients must not be lacking. It is best if the base fertilizer is sufficient, and if no additional fertilizer is applied later, there will not be much nutrient deficiency.

4. Drought and waterlogging

During drought, there is very little soil moisture, and the concentration of the soil solution becomes higher. As the concentration rises, the root system cannot absorb, or absorbs very little, so both nutrients and water are lacking, and this easily causes curvature. Similarly, waterlogging also affects root growth and absorption, and sometimes suffocation and rot make absorption impossible. Therefore, moisture should be kept moderate; during drought, water and irrigate in time, and during waterlogging, drain and clear the water in time and loosen the soil.

Curved peppers are, after all, a type of deformed fruit, so the causes are some basic environmental condition factors, as well as the key period of flowering and pollination. Only suitable temperature, light, water, and nutrients can promote normal growth.
