Loofah is a very popular gourd vegetable in summer, and it has a very large planting area in China. Loofah cultivation techniques are relatively simple, the yield is high, and it can be harvested multiple times. However, when planting loofah, we first need to do a good job of germinating the seeds to improve the seed germination capacity, so as to achieve the goal of increasing and abundant yield. So how should loofah seeds be germinated? Let's take a look together below!

1. Seed treatment

First, we need to soak the loofah seeds in room-temperature water for about 4 hours. After soaking the seeds, place them in warm water at about 52 degrees, maintaining the water temperature and soaking them for about 18 minutes. Then remove the seeds and rinse them clean with clear water, which can effectively eliminate bacteria on the surface of the seeds. After soaking the seeds in water, then soak them with chemicals such as procymidone. First soak them in clear water for about 2 hours, then put procymidone into the water and soak for 10 minutes. Then remove them and wash them clean, mainly to improve the disease resistance of loofah and prevent infestation by diseases such as gray mold.

2. Germination methods

Solution germination

There are many methods for germinating loofah seeds, among which the most common is the solution germination method. After selecting high-quality seeds, soak the seeds in a solution such as gibberellin. However, be careful to control the concentration well, keeping it at about 0.1%, and then control the soaking time at about 15 hours. After soaking the seeds, remove them, then wash them clean, dry off the moisture, and then sow them directly, which can effectively shorten the seed germination time and also achieve the purpose of germination.

Warm water germination

When using warm water germination, we first need to cut off a part of the germination site of the loofah seeds. When cutting, be careful not to damage the seed embryo, otherwise the result will be the opposite. After cutting, place the seeds in warm water at about 50 degrees and likewise soak for 15 hours. Promote the seeds to absorb sufficient moisture, then remove the seeds and place them on a wet cloth. Keep the wet cloth moist every day until most of the seeds have sprouted. Then sow the seeds into the soil prepared in advance. When sowing, be careful to face the germination site upward.

Incubator germination

When germinating, we should reasonably adjust the germination method according to the planting area and the number of seeds to be germinated. If the planting area is large and the number of seeds to be germinated is large, then we can use the incubator germination method. After disinfecting and washing the seeds, put them into the incubator and check the seed germination situation every day. When about 60% of the seeds have sprouted, they can be sown. After sowing, be careful to cover with soil. If the temperature is well controlled, the seeds can break through the soil in about three weeks. After emergence, do a good job of shading.

The above is a brief introduction to how to germinate loofah seeds. The germination work for loofah seeds is actually relatively simple. We can reasonably adjust the germination method according to our own germination habits and the actual conditions such as the planting environment. That is all for today's introduction.
