What to Do About Leggy Daffodils? Cause Analysis and Solutions

Flowers & Gardening 0 views
This is a perennial herbaceous plant in the Amaryllidaceae family. There are about eight hundred or more species of this plant worldwide, all with fairly high ornamental value. During the process of growing it, various problems can arise, such as the phenomenon of leggy growth, which is sure to trouble us greatly. So what should be done in this case?

1. Temperature Issues

Cause: One of the most likely causes is that the temperature is too high, causing the plant to grow too quickly. If this continues over time, it is no surprise that leggy growth occurs.

Solution: If this is the cause, then of course the temperature needs to be adjusted appropriately. The temperature range varies over time, and day and night need to be treated differently. During the day, the temperature is best around 10 to 15 degrees, but should not exceed 20 degrees, otherwise leggy growth is very likely. As for nighttime, the temperature range is best between 8 and 10 degrees.

2. Sunlight Issues

Cause: If the daffodils are grown indoors, then there is a common problem, which is too little light. However, this cause alone is not much of an issue; if you add to it relatively high indoor temperatures, plus little difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, then leggy growth is very likely to occur.

Solution: Measures concerning temperature have already been mentioned above, so here we will only talk about light. On a sunny day with no wind, around noon, we can move the plant outdoors and find a sunny spot to place it. Doing this can effectively inhibit leggy growth.

3. Water Changing Frequency

Cause: If we do not change the water frequently when growing them, this can also contribute to the troublesome phenomenon.

Solution: If this is the case, then we need to change the water regularly. You can pour out the water every evening, then replace it with fresh water the next morning.
