How to Grow Pittosporum tobira? Detailed Guide to Cultivation Methods and Precautions
1. Light
Their demand for light is relatively high. In summer, it is best if we place it outdoors; placing it in a shaded spot is also feasible. Many plants cannot tolerate overly intense light, but this one is different - strong light does not produce any negative effects on it.
2. Temperature
Every plant has its suitable temperature, and Pittosporum tobira is the same. Its preferred temperature is 15 to 30 degrees Celsius. However, reaching this temperature in winter is not very easy, so it can be moved indoors and the indoor temperature adjusted to above 5 degrees Celsius.
3. Watering
Watering is not a particularly difficult task; on the contrary, it is very easy, because the amount of water Pittosporum tobira needs is closely related to the season. In summer we should water more, while in winter the amount of water can be reduced. In spring we should water once every one to two days, because during this period it needs to grow and also begin preparing nutrients to produce flowers. In autumn the watering frequency is not low either - we also need to water once every two to three days.
4. Fertilizing
Fertilizer has a relatively strong influence on Pittosporum tobira. It loves fertilizer, so we should use base fertilizer and also apply additional fertilizer. In spring the frequency of additional fertilizing is not high - about every 15 to 20 days we should apply a balanced all-purpose fertilizer. In summer we should fertilize frequently, but the amount applied at one time should not be too much. The fertilizing frequency in autumn is the same as in spring. In addition, in winter we do not need to apply extra fertilizer.
5. Pruning
Because Pittosporum tobira is a plant that grows branches very easily, we need to prune it regularly. Generally speaking, in spring we can shape it according to the style we like. If only the top is growing, we should also remove the top.
